Layout gurus: a LR challenge?

Hi you marvelous designer-elves. I've finally recovered a bit from the trauma of doing my kitchen (nearly but still not quite yet "done" - I owe you a final reveal-with-explanation -- I know; getting there) to the point that I will tackle my laundry room.

Would anyone from here be willing to transfer your thinking caps to that manifestation? Seems kinda the same as the kitchen, only easier I should think....

Here's a link to a thread I started for this. I'd sure welcome any thoughts and suggestions from all you wise ones. You're the best (but you knew that.... ;) )

Thanks a million to any defectors.

I am still working on my LR, but I incorporated the double decker countertops that I saw on Abctate's GW post. It is fabulous to have so much countertop for folding and sorting. I also find myself using the space for other projects. Its a great idea and it might work under your windows too. See the fourth picture down on the linked thread.

Dilly: yes! I saw that and already lifted it! I agree looks tremendous; it was the spark for finally getting on this, to tell you the truth. I'm planning a large counter top with two deep shelves beneath. I think there's space for that; the countertop will be high, to turn a corner and go over the top of the FL. There are plans on my thread.

    Thanks!

In my fairly small laundry room, I wanted bins for sorted dirty laundry. I purchased a free standing wire shelving system from a restaurant supply company and currently have some standard plastic laundry baskets there but will be swapping for some Elfa wire baskets. I intend to top it with a countertop of some sort for sorting. I have considered having cabinetry made at some point, but would have to see if the cost would be worthwhile.

I have a nearby sink (in a powder room) for hand washing though if I had the space, I'd probably have a nice deep sink in the laundry room for that too.

I wish I had room for placing standing air drying racks as I air dry nearly all of my laundry. (I generally put the rack in the adjacent bathroom or an unused room elsewhere in the house.)

It would be wonderful to have the space to have an ironing board always up and ready to go and perhaps a small flatscreen TV to watch while ironing. (I hate ironing.) I like the idea of a wall hung flip-down ironing board, but have never used one. Right now I have a space for my ironing board between my stacked washer and dryer and the wall. And of course somewhere to store my iron. I also like to have a light weight ironing cloth to prevent wear on delicate cloth.

I like having a small amount of storage for soap, bleach, etc. I also like to have at least a clean large white towel nearby to use when I need to quickly steam a single item of clothing (to de-wrinkle) and need to throw it in the dryer to keep the clothing from getting more wrinkled in the dryer.

Here's a couple pictures in case anyone cares to weigh in? pretty please??

The wall hardware isn't what I had in mind, just the best I could do with Ikea-planner. I was thinking maybe of some of the Elfa wall pieces, flat wire racks that fold down and rods hanging underneath. That sort of thing.

Note that door drifted southward too much; it does fit in the space on the right wall, just shove it up. These measurements aren't perfect but are what I can squeeze from the program. I will likely find a local builder for the cabinets.

This front shot may give a better feel. Note the squirrely cabinet on the front right will not break in the middle; this is the way I had to grab things to get a large cabinet up top for brooms ... which I'm not going to use now anyway. In particular I'm wondering whether the sink is too tight on a right angle with the washer like that? TIA!!!
