is the "yikes" re: the painter who has never heard of reduced strength or because sis needs a new color?

Painter that hasn't heard of lightening a color! And he is giving her a hard time about the small red wall. Please it is maybe 6 feet across and 8' ceilings. He told her he will have to talk to the landlord again cause "that changes everything" I'm thinking he is going to up the price. Sounds like a fly by night kind of guy. Thank goodness it isn't her paying the bill.

Red is more difficult to get the paint on nicely. Takes more coats.

Can you just go up a notch on the strip for the lighter color?

My first instinct is to do the barely beige cc-140. Muslin (cc-110) is the color below the wall color she has chosen.

The red paint being used is from the Aura line. According to BM it should only take 2 coats.

RED flags are up about this painter.

OK on the painters side here...I read the first post as "reduced stregnth paint" in regards to thinning down the PAINT not reducing the color formula. How did she actually describe the paint? Did she make it clear that the color formula would be reduced or that the paint would be thinned, (as I read the post) which as a painter I'd be concerned about applying to a ceiling.

Good point Igloochic! I'm not exactly sure how she said it to him but I do know that he said "they add a drop of this and a drop of that to make a specific color so they can't just take 1/4 of that drop out to make your lighter color ... just pick a lighter color".

We picked a different color and hopefully she'll be happy. I'm hoping he'll ask today when he's getting the paint mixed at the store and realize that it is really possible.

Regardless of whether he's heard of "reducing" paint, he doesn't sound like he's very customer-service-driven. I hope it goes well.
