Hood for 30' range

Hi all,

I've pretty much decidd not to do a total remodel of my kitchen but instead to make do with my current layout and cabinets as much as possible. All appliances, counters, hardware, sink, floor will be replaced though.

However, I really want to add a hood over a new 30" range (brand is yet undecided) and prefer a 'furniture-look' in a hood. (Not sure if that's the right term for finished wood hoods)

I only have 8' ceilings and currently have mic/vent combo over the range, topped with a cabinet.

Please show me your 30" hoods! : ) I don't want to go larger, as that would create a whole series of cabinet changes that I'm trying to avoid. (Well, actually, I would love to go larger but am trying to keep the kitchen re-do as simple as possible.)

Thanks! Sandy

I think it's funny that I made the error of titling this thread Hood for 30' (foot) range instead of 30" (inch range.

If I had a 30' range, all the gwers within 200 miles could come over and we'd prepare a big dinner, each on our own burner! :p

Hope I don't confuse anyone! Sandy

It's not you; the software for some reason turns " to ' in titles

Check out the Finished Kitchens Blog.

One in the blog, click on the "FKB Categories" link on the right navigation panel.

Scroll down to "Special Features" (near the bottom).

Click on the "Custom Hoods" link to see some custom hoods (41 kitchens come up). Just click on each kitchen to see the GWer's kitchen.

I'm sure there are others as well, you could also browse through the finished kitchens.

    Good Luck!

I have a hood for a 30 inch range. I went with a Bosch dual fuel range and a Bosch hood. My ceilings are 7.5 feet in my kitchen. Originally, I went with the pyramid style of hood.

After installing the backsplash behind my stove, I changed my mind as to what hood I wanted (the one Lowe's sent me was smashed beyond repair anyway--another story, so it was a good time to get something different). I decided to do a full backspash of granite up to the ceiling behind the stove. After the granite was installed, I decided I wanted to see it and not have it covered by a hood. I went with glass instead and "expanded" my horizons (so to speak) design wise. I love the glass hood. It is very modern looking and the picture doesn't give it justice. It looks like it is all stainless, but only the chimney is along with a "band" in front of the glass. I get to see my beautiful granite without any obstructions!

It might not go for your kitchen, but keep your options open. You might be surprised at what you find you like and what works well in your kitchen. In the end, the pyramid hood would have been too heavy for my small kitchen.

So check out Bosch. I love my dual fuel with full extension racks, the biggest oven for the 30 inch size, etc. I am having to learn to cook all over again since it is convection. I LOVE the warming drawer as well. I am surprised as I thought I would never use it. Well, I use it all the time! The Bosch hoods are nice as well. They really suck--in a good way!

Thanks, buehl, for giving me the tip about the FKB! I'm new here and hadn't ever seen that function on there before. I'm off to take a peek at it right now! : )

What a cool streamlined hood you did, mustbnuts! How do you like your Bosch dual-fuel? It is one that I will be looking at when appliance selection time comes.
