We have the same situation.. and like in yours just painting the shorter section made the room feel squat.. we pulled our paint on up and it made SUCH a difference.. it really opened up the room.

Oh... you SO have to paint those! I think the little niche in the first shot is okay as is, but would also work if you painted the ceiling in it. The rest, though, definitely read more as wall space than ceiling. You will like it much better painted.

We have the same situation in the house we're in now and the one that we're building. We've always painted the slopes the same colors as the walls. It really does make a difference. Here's a pic of the sunroom that shows the slopes painted and another angle of the great room. Our ceilings are only 9' upstairs in the playrooms, but we did the same thing up there. I don't have pics of those rooms in my files yet. If I remember to take the camera out to the house today I'll snap a couple of pics of those rooms too. :o)
