Bathroom is finished!

It was a busy weekend spent repainting my newly-painted bathroom, and I'm a little disheartened at having gotten very little rest before having to jump right back into the fray at work tomorrow - but at least the color on the walls won't make me cringe when I'm getting ready in the morning. My phone camera is the pits for really capturing the color well (and I've just not had time to recharge my regular camera's battery), but this will at least give an idea of what the color was like before and after. It's still light green, but with a blue as opposed to yellow undertone. I had no idea that the same color that works so well in our kitchen would be so ghastly in the bath!

The old paint is shown here on the lower (textured) portion of wall, and the new paint is on top:

New paint - perfectly matching the lightest green in the leaves of the shower curtain:

OK, I lied - I'm not completely finished. Still have to repaint the interior of the open-shelved cabinet and need to use the Valspar clear topcoat in the wet area around the tub. But the bulk of the work is done, and for that, I am truly relieved! (And sore!)

I like it! I have always loved pink and green together, and you've done it without it looking "little girlish" (like my childhood bedroom).
I had to pull up your old thread with the "before pic" and it's so much more calming now. You really need to post a "before" pic on this thread so that we can truly appreciate the change.

Thanks, Terriks! I'm afraid the before/after contrast may not come through in these pics, but believe me, in person it is very different. Those yellow undertones really cast a nasty glare in the room. It's so restful and soothing on the eyes now.

Very pretty. I can see how the first green did not work, but the one you used is much more calm. This definitely evokes Cotswolds. So glad you were able to get it the way you wanted.

Lovin' the new paint color. The old was was a bit jarring, wasn't it? Can't wait to see the rest of the room.

I can't see much difference on my monitor, but I do remember the difference in the paint chip you showed and I know it would look so much nicer with that curtain. Congrats on getting it mostly finished. I'm sure it is beautiful now.

    Very pretty!

It might be nice to replace the silver switch cover above the towel bar with something in white ceramic or something with a handpainted flower detail. If you can't find that, cover the plate with a wallpaper sample with your garden florals in it, and seal with the Valspar.

It's just perfect and so gorgeous, turned out so well !!

    Huge difference...good for you!

It looks great Jen! Another fan of pink and green - and pink roses.

Difference doesn't show on my monitor but I will take your word for it. I love that shower curtain and the pretty prints on the wall. I think les's idea about the wall plate is a good one unless you have another plan.

You are such a hard worker !! c

You are one busy bee and the new color is perfect!

Lovely. The after is so soothing. Another who loves the combo of pink and green (had a bath that color for a few years). Stinks on the lack of sleep factor, but the payoff was well worth it. Great job!

Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm disappointed that the difference just doesn't show up well in the photos. I'll take pics with my "real" camera once the final pieces are in place (rug, and another picture for the wall). Good idea for jazzing up/toning down the old switchplate. I would imagine it's been there since the house was built - it's that old looking! ;-)

Here's a comparison of the old paint color (top) and the new (bottom). This tells a better story than my crummy photos do.

Oh trust me - the difference does show. Much, much better. The whole thing works now and looks pulled together, soft and inviting. No doubt you'll enjoy getting ready for work in that room!

Very lovely and very impressive how fast you pulled it together.

I like both colors but you get to see them IRL and can better assess how they look overall.
I may be the odd one out, but I like that the switchplate looks old and was probably there from the beginning. I like keeping some touches from the original house. We had a half wall mirror in our dining room that was one of the only things we were keeping original after the reno. Of course, the contractors broke it one day after it had been here for over 60 years (if it wasn't put in by the builder, it was added shortly after). Since the house was a suburban tract home, there was little that was special when it was built and the subsequent owners did not do anything worthy, so this was one piece of its history I wanted to keep. Oh well.
I'd save that light switch and let it shows its age.

Beautiful!! I love that shade of green. Perfect!

BTW, I'm pretty sure I'm getting the shower curtain as a gift from my DIL. It will go great in my bathroom too!

Hey, we'll have to have High Tea in our bathrooms and chat on the cell phones. lol

Jen, it looks beautiful! Very soothing and feminine, without being too girly.

From one floral lover (especially roses) to another--just beautiful. What a difference, don't you just love what a coat of paint and a few changes can do for a room

Thanks so very much! It's nice that others think my efforts were worth it! I definitely enjoyed having a nice color on the walls this morning while getting ready for work. I am so not a morning person, but having a more soothing color to look at first thing definitely helped elevate my Monday morning mood.

And to think, this is what the walls in the bathroom looked like this time last year. Yikes!

the 2nd green is a much nicer color in there!!! looks nice! i am very impressed with your 'sticktoittiveness'!!
(do you have trouble with cat fur getting on your walls while you're painting?? i was having that trouble with one bathroom this weekend...
:( the fur just was seeming to appear in the wet paint on the wall!)

    Love it!

Good God woman! Bottle up some of that energy and send it to me!

The bathroom turned out so fresh and pretty!

Wow, really loving this color. So much more pleasing. When do you expect your rug to come in? Can't wait to see it with your curtain and new wall color!

I agree, please bottle some of your ambition and send it my way. Sadly lacking here...

I like SW decor, but I can see how using the pastels in the bathroom instead of bold colors makes a huge difference.

I've always had the pink, green, white bathroom and I don't think I'll ever change it.

Does your DH mind the colors? My dh has never said a negative word which makes me feel good. lol

Just right! Nice job! You're such a fast worker!

Well, what a disappointment this rug turned out to be:

See how it has that soft white paisley design running throughout? Uh, no. The actual rug looks as though it has been cut from a large rug, and only a portion of a huge, poorly executed (looks like it was made with a child's sidewalk chalk!) shows. Too, it was not cut straight and the wool itself had a matted look and the color was slightly off. It's going back from whence it came pronto.

I'm so disappointed that this wasn't the one and I guess I'm back to the drawing board in my rug search. At this point, I'm half tempted to just go to Target and buy a couple of small bath mats - one for in front of the sink, the other in front of the tub - and call it good. Assuming I can keep Sunny cat from tinkling on it. He doesn't bother wool rugs at all, but something about a bath mat draws him to want to mark it as his. ::sigh::

Oakley, my DH seems to really love the colors! He's a man who's not at all afraid of pink in the house (although he'd never wear a pink article of clothing). He even helped me pick out our pink towels. ;-)

Very pretty with the new color -- yes -- when I see the difference in the tones in the swatches above -- the new green does look much better!

Take care -- and get some rest! :)

Beautiful country look - but I am so curious - what is that rough finished wall made of, and what on earth are your shower walls?

Birdgardner, it's a long story (covered in entirely too many of my previous posts ;-)), but basically those walls are the old Durock cement boards covered with mortar - what remains when 1940s tile is removed from the wall by the "genius" previous owner who thought that would be a brilliant idea.

It looks great! I thought the other green looked good but this works better.

Ah, I'm sorry to hear about the rug. It's really disappointing when you're excited about something and it doesn't work out. I know it's not funny but I got a chuckle out of the kitty and your bath mats. Animals can really be something at times! Maybe you can find a rug at one of the local stores that isn't a bath mat that could work.

I LOVE the the transformation. Our guest bedroom had a floral Laura Ashley comforter with those same colors.

That looks so much better! I love all of your accessories, and I'm sure you'll find a rug that will work. Our kitchen is painted a similar green color.

In the "paint lovers unite" thread someone alluded to this so I had to see it! Wow -- what a terrific job you did. I am really impressed, and I am so glad you have a color which soothes you as you get ready for work in the morning. I hear you! Congratulations -- you are a phenom.

Where did you get the rug? Sorry if I missed this.

Catkin - the rug I ordered came from Homedecorators.com. I returned it - it was not at all as pictured on their website. I am currently using a couple of microfiber mats in the room, but I have ordered this wool rug (from an Amazon seller) to go in front of the sink and I think I'm going to be very pleased with it once it arrives.

DH is on his way to the paint store right now to pick up a couple of gallons of BM Grasshopper. I'll be painting the hallway this weekend. :-)
