Please Help!!-Wall range hood for apt

I'm in the process of remodelling my galley, apt kitchen. Originally had a broan 30" 220cfm hood (power to suck up the smoke etc). It is ventless and just recirculates the air.In my plan to open up space I removed the hood and was not planning on replacing, because frankly, I didn't think it did very much. However, general online advice is to definitely use a range hood because of all of the vaporized grease that will get all over the walls & cabinets. OK--I will replace the range with a 360m or 400 cfm speed. I just wanted to get a new hood and attach to the wall. In trying to shop for one I'm told it has to be attached under a cabinet or I have to get one of those expensive, chimmney style do-dads. I just wantthe flat, under cabinet styel($200-$300) to put on the wall.I'm not putting a cabinet over my range. It there some secret reason why I can't just drill holes in the back of the hood and attach to the wall? I would really appreciate any advice on what to do and any recommendations on good range hoods for apt living. Thank you very much. Bebe
