Need help with kitchen colour

Hi Everyone,

I need help choosing a paint colour for my kitchen. I live in a condo with a kitchen that is a separate room from the living room/dining area. There are two entrances into the kitchen - one from the hallway and one from the dining room area. I painted the hallway and living room/dining room Benjamin Moore Cable Knit (CC306). The cabinets are white. The counter is a kashmir white granite and the backsplash is a glass tile that gives off a cool blue tone. The floor is beigy ceramic tile.

I have painted everything else and am struggling with this last decision.

I was originally thinking of painting it the same colour as the rest of the condo (ie Cable Knit) but people have advised me that it may contrast too much with the cool colour of the backsplash.

I really loved the bluey glass tiles but now that we've put them in, they seem to clash with the overall "warm" look that I was going for in the living room/dining area. So I have a warm living room/dining area and a "cool" looking kitchen. I also have a white kitchen table with metal legs. I was thinking that I would warm it up with brown accessories, like brown placemats, table runner and beigy roman blinds.

Overall I want the kitchen and living room/dining area/hallway to look like it flows rather than these separate rooms with different colour schemes.

Someone has suggested CC-608 Dewdrop. What do you guys think of this colour?

I attached a picture of my kitchen in the photo gallery (under the same subject posting) but still working out how to post pics under this discussion side.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

P.S Thanks to Judith for telling me the difference between the gallery and discussion.

can I bump this up to the top? I am feeling a bit anxious as family are asking me when the kitchen will be done.

I hope someone will chime in for you. I think part of the problem may be that it looks like you are working with BM Canada colors which many here aren't familiar with. I LOVE that Cable Knit color. I went to the Canada site and looked at dewdrop. It looks very pretty. There was a recent thread where someone was asking about mixing warm and cool colors and everyone seemed to think it was okay to mix it up a bit. I am not a color expert, but it seems like the dewdrop will look good with the kitchen and cable knit. Hopefully someone else will chime in. Good luck!

    Thanks Polkadots!

I have posted a link to the Benjamiin Moore Canada website. CC608 Dewdrop is a very light blue/green colour.

My main concern is that since it's a condo that the mix of warm and cool will contrast too much since you will be able to see the warm Cableknit colour from the kitchen through the 2 entrances (which don't have doors).

It is hard to tell color with a computer monitor, but my first thought is that a safe bet would be BM Cable Knit in your kitchen. You have a very urban space, and the BM Cable Knit seems to work well in the dining area. It is a sophisticated and warm neutral that does well there. Also, I noticed that the kitchen countertops look like they would work well with BM Cable Knit. So, if you want to play it safe, I think that would be a good kitchen color. Do you have extra paint? Why not paint a paint board (you can buy them at paint stores) with the BM Cable Knit and hold it up next to the glass backsplash?

I think another color that might work is a sagey green, which is very popular right now (probably because it is such a beautiful color!), would work well with the Cable Knit, and might also play off of your backsplash. BM Vineland, or Herbs de Provence, or Beach Glass for example. In US colors, I am thinking of BM Dry Sage or BM Vale Mist.

Personally I would steer clear of golds or yellows in your kitchen, but might entertain some interesting shades of brown - Sisal, maybe? or Bluffs? that would play off of the dining room and the urban landscape. Again, it is hard to tell from the computer monitor.

Have fun and remember you can always repaint! :-)

Is it crazy to think about removing a brand new expensive backsplash because I can't decide on the paint colour to match?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Wish that I weren't so indecisive...

I'm sure you can find something to go with the tiles, I would NOT rip it out. Can you paint a sample (on posterboard) of the cable knit and tape in up next to the backsplash. See what you think and post a pic if you want opinions. :)

I don't think you should consider removing your backsplash. Keep looking for a paint color that grabs you!

Completely agree that you should not rip out the backsplash. It is really pretty! Also note that the backsplash looks good with the brown countertops You could match the kitchen paint to the countertops. Polkadots has a great idea with posting a photo using a paint sample against the backsplash - everyone here is ready with an opinion! :-)
