Finally repainted and...

The colour is very pretty. Apricot-yellow indeed. But I am in shock. Not sure if it is just such a change after that dreary greenish yellow paint that looked like pea soup, but my apricot-yellow seems overwhelming and rather bright to me just now. I tested the colour and I do like the colour but it just seems a bit much.

Does one need time to adjust to a new colour esp. after dreary paint? Does paint look more bright/intense when curtains are down, furniture is not against wall? I feel like Goldilocks - first it was too dreary and green, now it may be too bright and yellow/apricot. Not sure what do other than see if it grows on me - I like the colour but it just seems rather - - bright and sunny!! This is what I wanted, but maybe it is just too much. Sigh. Shame about my vaulted ceilings as I cannot paint on my own so cannot play around with colours properly before bringing the painters in.

I guess that I just have to give it time and see. I just wish that I had never bothered painting the house sometimes. So stressful for me.

Yes, new paint color is always a shock.---whether you're going lighter or darker. I always second guess myself when it's going up. Do you have all the furnishings moved back in? Once everything is in, pictures hung, drapes, etc..it won't seem so stark and .I'm sure it will look better too you....it sounds like a really pretty color

Give it some time. And then, if it's still bothering you, try changing light bulbs before you try repainting. The color of light really affects the way we see color and can change your perception of the room.
But you really may just grow to love it over time.

Most definitely the paint color will look more intense with the curtains down and the furniture out of place. Give it a chance.

Let the shock of the change wear off, live with it for a bit and I bet it will grow on you. Can you post a picture so we can see?

Paints with yellow are among the hardest to select. So it can take more than one try to get it right.

In my old BR I tired of the deep blue paint so rather than paint the whole thing, I bought a coordinating wallpaper border and faux finished half the wall then put the border up in between...really softened the blue.

Yes, please post pics. I think the sudden change is what is the shock. I imagine it would be like how nature changes from summer to fall/winter. It happens gradually and we get used to it day by day, but if we suddenly awakened and it all changed overnight, it would be a shock and would take us time to get used to it. If you love the color, that's a great sign.

While there is a possibility that is too bright for you, I wouldn't worry too much until you furnish the room again. Put up the drapes and decorate as if you already love the color and go from there. I know that's allot of work if you wind up still not loving it, but it's really the only way you're going to know for sure. I hope it all turns out for you Scarlett.

Actually now that it is morning, it is not so much neon as just very light and bright in a creamy way, and barely yellow at all and more an apricot-peach cream in the day (I did want more yellow during the day). At night there is more yellow and vividness coming through.

You can see in the photos that I have this FABULOUS kitchen floor that I wanted the paint to work with that is a focal point of the house. For the floor, I needed not so much a pure yellow as a paint with apricot or even a hint of pink undertone (very pinky orange sandstone colour kitchen floor). I may have swung too far towards peach/apricot and lost the yellow (sigh). Last time I lost the yellow and the paint was murky green!! This is a repaint.

Admittedly the paint looks great colour-wise with the kitchen floor, but it might be too airy and too creamy (??) and peachy for the rest of the house. But I guess that I can try to make it work!! I *want* make it work as I have no money to change (cannot paint high ceilings on my own) and I am tired of staring at paint chips!!

Photos below are reasonably true to what it looks like although it may look a tad more orange-apricot in real life - looks a bit more subdued in pics.

    Another photo for you.

Here is another photo for you to look at.

Yellow can turn on you, especially once it's up on all four walls which can make everything more intense. I have a yellow bathroom. It looked creamy in the too-little sample I put on the wall. Depending on the time of day and light, it can range from a tolerable soft yellow, to a shrieking blast of bright yellow. I have put up with it because I'm in there a relatively short amount of time each day, and the ceiling is 13-ft. at its highest point.

And just one more photo and that is it.

After testing so many creamy colors that turned bright yellow in my south-facing sitting room, we chose SW Antique White. AW has no yellow in the formula; however, the outside light adds it. Sometimes it's the exact color I wanted, but other times I think why did I paint this room yellow? I think it's just the nature of light colored paints in the cream and yellow tones. Where there's light, there's yellow.

The color is pretty but I'm not seeing any yellow in it. I think it goes fine with the floor.

Omigosh, i think it is beautiful! It's really very subtle to me, but I know what a shock it is to put a different color on the wall - the changes seem dramatic those living with them. From your description I thought it was going to look like this (which some might like but would take more time to get used to, I think). I hope your new color grows on you, because it really is lovely.

Scarlett I was thinking that I would see a bright screaming yellow wall. It is lovely. A very nice warm color and to my eye not bright apricot at all just a warm glow. I absolutely LOVE it! You did great!

Yep, I was picturing something like Oly posted too. I think it's a lovely color. Looks more beige than apricot/yellow to me. My kitchen is cobalt so this is so not bright. Ha ha ha! This just shows that a picture is worth a thousand words and that we all see things differently. I think it's a lovely color.

You can take a deep breath as I think you are going to love it. It looks very nice with your floor and furniture. Just give it some time to get used to it not being green anymore.

I think it looks great. Which was the color you finally decided to use?

Thank you all. Colour is a colour match to a Valspar colour that we then tweaked a little.

You won't believe it but the paint is almost a vivid bright yellow at night. My house is weird. Between day and night all colours shift over - my last paint was soft yellow with very mild green undertones during day and went like pea soup at night. This paint is soft apricot during day and goes to vivid yellow at night. So strange.
