Certainly, as long as you have an actual cabinet maker OR a cabinet installer with some skills. Just be sure they know EXACTLY what dishwasher you have (provide specs if you doubt them, with the depth issue highlighted) before work begins and that they understand the issue.

It's not difficult--they just need to know that it's not standard.

Do you think that the cabinetry adjustment will cost a lot of extra money?I'm thinking something like putting a 10" deep behind the DW instead of 12" and that this shouldn't require an up charge. But I haven't found a cabinetmaker yet so I don't know what "custom" changes will cost.

Hmm, the installation specs for the KA panel ready I'm looking at shows a depth of 24" without the panel. Wouldn't that be the same as standard cabs? The diagram does show another 3/4" insulation that is "not on all models."

I just installed my kitchen aid dw in my base cabinets. The specs said it was 24 1/2 inches deep and my cabinets are 24 inches deep. My carpenter put up 1/2 inch dry wall over the whole wall except where the dw was going. It worked perfectly. It looks great. My appliance guy warned me he has had more than a few kitchen aid dws returned because they stuck out. I believe with some planning it will work out.

Ah, OK...the model I'm looking at shows both a 24-1/2 inch depth which I assume is for the model with the stainless door, but 24 for the panel ready model. Your solution is good to know! About all the returns, maybe that's why the model I'm looking at on craigslist is new but without box.
