Help this lonely corner!

Some of you may have seen these pictures from our recent basement remodel. One thing has bugged me though and it is this corner.

It is the beverage fridge. At the time we were trying to cut back, so I never had plans to put cabs above. But now it really bugs me because it looks like it is crying out for something to go on the walls. Here are more pics to give you a better idea of the space.

The door is to the bathroom in the above pic.

In this corner I had a mirror background with two glass shelves installed where I have pilsner glasses on the top and a row of wine glasses on the bottom. I still have to download the pic to my computer, sorry!

Sooo, I was thinking of something like shelves a la PB style for glasses etc., but would I put the shelves on both walls and have them butt up in the corner? Also, do I need the shelves to match the wood of the cabs or can I use something darker like espresso?

Or do I just go with art? Help!

So let me pick your creative brains....WWYD?

Pic of what I was thinking below in link, I hope!

To me corners always call for something tall. I would do a corner wine rack, in black. Lots of choose from if you google. Lovely basement, what color is your wall and what kind of flooring do you have?

I like the PB shelves, but in your space maybe the black color would add more interest. Did you see the picture of them in the dark wood? What's adding interest in that space is the huge wine barrel lid(?) with the chalkboard, so you might think about adding some kind of art too.

Thankyou for your thoughts. Here is an updated pic of the other corner with the addition of mirror and glass shelves.

I'd put up a wine rack, and maybe a poster or some art that would work. Where are you keeping wine glasses? Do you need to hang them as well?

roseabby, sorry I forgot to answer your question about the paint. The wall is Pratt & Lambert Peppercorn and the flooring is cork. Baltico in walnut.

ideefixe, we posted at the same time! Wine glasses above.

I know you said that at the time you were trying to cut back, so is it feasible now for you put up matching cabinets, as i think that it would tie it all in :). The cabinets, granite and flooring are just beautiful! We will be doing a remodel of our 1980s basement soon and your color choices and materials are definitely my style!

ksoxgrl thankyou! IF I did, I guess I could do cabs with the center (corner) being a wine rack. I'd have to price that out and I'm afraid of the estimate! As you can see, I was trying to cut corners with a somewhat temp fix.

My pick for an artwork! LOL! Hang it unframed -- just have it mounted on canvas! Love the colors in this one!

    Or how about this one?

Don't forget to place a glass container there to hold/keep corks from fun times or great wines!

Teacats, thankyou! Love the first one also. I do have a large glass container over by the tv. It was on top of this counter, but I moved it. I do plan on filling it with corks after I get it all figured out. Thanks!

What about a hanging wrought-iron wine "rack". I don't know what they're called, but I saw one once and just loved it. Gosh, now I'm at a loss of how to describe it. If I can find a pic of one, I'll post it.

here's something similar. The one I remember was "free-hanging", not on the wall, and it had space for more bottles.

I think a corner cupboard unit fills that type of space the best, myself. It might look somewhat awkward of mis-fitted otherwise. I'd definitely at least price it out.

As far as the shelving, my thoughts were as yours, butting them in the middle sounds better, to me, visually, as does a dark espresso.

Beautiful space and colors! I've clipped the images to show you the shelving.

I think a corner cabinet is the way to go. It would look better than any of the other options and of course be more functional. Adding one now would probably cost the same as buying shelves, artwork and a wine rack. If you are worried about matching the other cabinets and they don't make the same ones you already have go with black, or a pop of color.

dilly, the one you posted is what I was thinking except the middle section being a space for the wine bottles. *sigh* I would still like to see something like the PB shelves for something a little different. I hate how empty it looks. Another thing I saw is from Nell Hill's online. It is based off of the same rack Mary Carol has sitting on her kitchen island. A kind of bistro rack.
