I flipped your picture for you. What if you were to pick up the lighter blue in the floor, for your walls, and put your sofas face to face? Then the two doors wouldn't be a problem.

You could use a darker version of the tan color in your tile for an area rug to ground the sofas.

Olldobbi, I should have clarified...the points of entry are noted in each of the pics..The second pic (the one you rotated)- shows the entry from the kitchen. You have to step down into the den. The second entry is on the side. You enter from another room (first pic).

Try the sofa on the long wall and the two chairs (separated so you can enter from the kitchen) where the sofa is now. Choose a colour that is in the floor and the fireplace surround as Cheryl said and put down a solid carpet that almost fills the space - almost right up to the border or to the inside section of the square closest to the wall. It could even be the colour of the square. Then consider changing out that other chair in the corner for a print or stripe with the colours in it. Put an end table between the sofa and the chair on the right from the kitchennd maybe a round cocktail table or ottoman table. Lots of good lighting and some nice drapery panels on the walls ( just covering the frame ) on those two windows.

How big is your room? It does not look like you have room to place the sofas facing each other? Or do you? I think you may have too much furniture for the space. I would place sofa so it faces (float in middle of room) the fireplace and put a chair under each window on either side of the fireplace, and remove love seat from room.

I would add a solid colored rug to break up the expanse of tile.

Thanks everyone! These are all great ideas. Bonnie, thanks for the tip on furniture arrangement. I like the layout. I never thought about a blue rug, but I think that it may work. My room is essentially 14x14. I think the furnitur is bulky. I just bought a sectional that does not seem to work either, which is I especially like the layout you suggested.
