Help! Need opinions - Marble Backsplash cut wrong

I posted this in the bathroom forum but I was hoping to get some opinions from the experts on this forum as well.

Our master bathroom is nearly finished (still getting faucets installed, waiting on glass doors, need to put up sconces, mirrors, hardware etc). I was hoping to wait to post until after it's all done but I have a dilemma and need help deciding what to do.

The Carrara vanity counters came in and the backsplash was cut incorrectly. There are separate his and hers vanities on different walls and each was supposed to have a rectangular backsplash and a left sidesplash with a curved design in the front.

Long story short they screwed up and made a design on the backsplashes too (plus the smaller vanity was cut completely wrong - they thought the wall was on the right).

They can re-cut pieces for the smaller vanity but there is no other 96" piece to re-cut the large backsplash correctly. There are no more slabs from the same lot left. They said doing a seam would look bad. They are offering us a credit (not sure how much) to compensate us for this mistake.

My main concern is what to do now. They can do them as pictured in the link below with a design on both the backsplash and the sidesplash but I really don't like this option.

Should I get rid of the sidesplashes and just have them put the design on both sides of each backsplash so at least it's symmetrical?

I have thought about scratching the solid marble backsplashes all together but there is a small gap between the 96" countertop and the back wall. Should I do mirrors all the way down to the countertop? I could try to order molding to match the cabinets and trim frameless mirrors with that.

I also thought of doing a tile backsplash but I'd have to get the tile guy back, order more tile plus most of the carrara tile is much lighter than the countertops. It would also cost a ton more.

Any ideas anyone? I would really appreciate any thoughts. I need to call them back to tell them what I want them to do. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

Hi, I didn't totally understand what you meant by a design.

If you can get it made the way you drew it in on with an ink pen on the photos, I think that would look great.

You have a lovely bathroom and lots of gorgeous countertop space!

Thanks dandylandy! I know this isn't kitchen related but I would appreciate it if anyone else had any thoughts.

is there a reason why they cannot correct the problem by replacing your marble on the counter and back splash and doing it right? have them buy you new slabs that you like, i would push for that as opposed to having to live with their error and adjusting your plans. if they offered you a credit i would ask for full replacement of all marble required.

Frankly, I like what they have proposed better than the original plan (assuming I understood it right...you wanted the curved end only on the short sidesplash and a straight end on the backsplash?)

I think it looks symmetrical this way, as it's the open ends that have the curved piece...not one open end and one that deadends into the wall.

So, if it were me...I'd take the credit (I assume you mean a discounted price...not a credit towards something else, which possibly you don't want or need?) and feel good about it.

But, as they say, advice is only worth what you pay for it!

I agree I too like their proposal better than the original choice. Sorry!

I wanted to thank everyone for your input even though this was not kitchen related. Sorry it took so long to post an update. I took a few days to think about it and finally decided to forgo the sidesplashes and put the design on both sides of the backsplash. I am pretty happy with how it looks. I'll post pics in the bathroom forum when the sconces/mirrors are installed.

    Beautiful bathroom!

"Should I get rid of the sidesplashes and just have them put the design on both sides of each backsplash so at least it's symmetrical?"

    Yes!

I love your original design but I think the new work around will have such a similar visual effect, you'll still love it. I wanted the same thing in my bath but ran out of marble :(

All your choices are lovely, great job!
