ovens!

Got our oven cabinet up and the ovens in. Need to order the trim kit and some accesories I'm missing. I'm going to do that directly from Miele. Now we're battling with the pantry pullout to the right. I have a little over 14" and I realize that I can modify the width but don't think I can modify the drawers on the pullout. May have to switch it out for shelves? Dunno... posted over on Ikeafans but haven't gotten a response yet.

    Looking good!

I don't know if you can modify the trays on the pullout, but there's no reason you couldn't make your own and just use the glide hardware.

WAIT Plllog... let me pick your brain! Are you saying I can use the track, the side rails, but just have DH make a bottom that's a narrower depth?

I'm not an expert. Definitely ask Ikeafans. I have a couple of pullouts that my cabinetmaker made entirely out of plywood and Blum hardware. If you have the pullout unit that otherwise fits, and knowing that your DH is good with cabinet work, I don't see why you couldn't cut down the door (though replacing the edge veneer might be a bother) and use all the hardware, with your own innards. Couldn't you?

The doors are not a problem cause Scherrs is making them. I was concerned with the width of the innards. But I guess he could just make the bottom. I did post over on Ikeafans but haven't gotten any response yet.

Oh, yeah. I knew the doors were Scherrs. I wasn't thinking. I just looked at a plan for the pullout because I wasn't following what you were saying. So, yes, I think you could use the sides, but you'd have to have a narrow back as well as bottom.

Alternatively, you can build the interior and use standard drawer glides (heavy duty), along with the Scherrs door.

Point is, you can make it work.

Yay! More progress and those BEAUTIFUL ovens!!!! Yes, definitely, if you have the hardware and the handy hubby who can make new boxes, you should be able to have your drawers/pullouts.

You can get alternate rollouts from Scherrs. People have gotten them from other places or you guys could build some.

You can't change the width of the drawers without being a metal worker :( You'd need to cutdown the BACK metal plate for a 15" drawer - recutting the back to exact edge pattern for it to "click" into the side again.

You might also look at some of the hardware companies (rev-a-shelf, ovis or knape and vogt for more traditional pull-out pantry hardware.

Here is a link that might be useful: This is a sample, variable width baskets are extra

Yanno... I was just looking and pricing the hardware to do this ourselves. It's way more expensive. So I think I may just stack two 12" wide base pullouts (I actually like the look of two smaller door/pullouts over I large door... easier to handle?) and have DH build a box for the top (should be 19" high) with shelves and then have the door made. Is that a good idea?

That looks great! What did you decide on for doors? Did I miss that post?

I"m getting samples of doors from Scherrs. One in Lyptus and one in Premium QS white oak. We REALLY loved the picture of that one... now we're waiting to see if we love the wood 35% more to cover the upcharge! Both samples will be natural color with clear coat on it. They've been shipped, can't wait to get them.

    Can't wait to see them!

Your double 12"'s sounds like a good idea. Would you perhaps want a drawer or two in between instead of the box on top?

I'll have to think about that. Each 12" will be a pullout with I think 3 shelves and I may not be able to reach much in the second one if I put a drawer inbetween them. I thought I'd just store little used stuff in the cabinet above. DH is going to make the door above my ovens into a tray cabinet for me so I have baking sheets and whatnot covered there.

Why don't you just get a 15" pantry carcass and cut the back and tops to the same width of a 12" wide cabinet? It will be one piece then and easier to deal with. Then you can buy 2 sets of the drawers (the 12" comes in a pack of 3--two shallow and one deep drawer) and configure it how you want. That is how I would do it. (We also did IKEA cabs with custom doors and did modifications to the boxes.)

    Just a suggestion....

Hi shelayne... I was hoping one or our experienced IKEA people would chime in. THanks! We could do that, though I'd still lose those extra 2" so I thought I might as well buy the two 12". I think I remember someone... and it was a long long time ago; who did something like I'm talking about. Made their pullout into two separate pullouts. Maybe I'd keep cleaning supplies in one, and snacks/cereal in the other. I wish I could find pics of the cabinet both ways!

Looking good remodelfla! Those ovens look good and awfully familiar!! I have a story that will appall most of you: we've been using our kitchen since March, I haven't use our lovely Miele oven yet! So far the speed oven has been able to do the trick. Clearly I don't baked much (and probably won't be ever now that I have to go gluten-free!).

Good luck with the pantry solution!

Hmmm, I am trying to picture what you mean about losing 2" (unless you mean the width). The high cabinet is 88" (or 80")before the feet are added; two base cabinets give you 60 1/4". The high cabinet can be configured to have pullouts below and shelves on top. If you cut it so it is only the width of a 12" cabinet, you still have all the pullouts and the top for storage. It sounded as if that is what you are trying to do, or am I off? It wouldn't be the first time-LOL. You could easily separate areas with a shelf, and you wouldn't have to have your DH build you an extra box on top. You can get the same height cabinet as your oven cabinet.

I hope I'm not coming off pushy--I just want to make it easier for you. And I hope I'm making sense! :^p :^)

All you would need would be the 15" High Pantry frame, a pack of 12" X 24" deep shelves (they come in twos), a package of hinges, and 2 12" drawer packs (for 6 drawers).

Remember also that the base cabinets do not have a regular top like the bottom piece (like a wall cabinet). They have the two cross brace pieces, so you would also need to account for that at the very top.

Sorry for the side note (okay, hijack), but Sochi, gluten free might be a great time to start baking! There are a lot of good gluten free products available, and even King Arthur has recently gotten into the act, with flours and all kinds of mixes.

Sheylane... you are so cute. I do mean width. Height is not a problem. DH raised the header and could raise/lower it to whatever I needed.

Same function, but in two different units stacked together so I can pull them out as individual units. Then DH could finish off the top. It just seems soooooo much easier then all that modification and then buying special pullouts for barely 2 inches in width.

And yes... there's spelt flour and all sorts of info on gluten free.
