Is it one piece of wood or a bunch of little pieces glued together? It looks like one piece but hard to tell from the photo. If it's one piece and that size, yep, you probably heard a crack.

If it is one piece as it looks, and rmtdoug says, yes it is likely cracking.... Wood is much more stable when laminated. If the crack opens up, it won't be very suited as cutting board. Firewood maybe? ;) Or, if your husband is attached to it, maybe he can use it in the garage or workskhop... I use old cutting boards on my workbench and they come in handy.

My guess is that it's cracking. There's probably more than a slight humidity difference from where you bought it and where you live and that isn't going to help things any.

I don't like a round cutting board because anything you are chopping falls off of it so easily. Since you said you already have cutting boards, and this one is cracking, and brown stuff is coming off of it, I would "de-clutter" and dispose of it. If your husband would be upset at this, surprise him with a lovely new (rectangular) cutting board.

I'll link to an article from America's Test Kitchen in which they recommend the Proteak 18 x 24 Edge Grain Teak Cutting Board (though I haven't tried it myself; I keep using my ancient no-name one).

I would not buy a wood cutting board from anywhere without knowing exactly where it was made and what it was treated with....

The reviews on the Proteak board are not all that great either and at $90 I would think you could buy from a local artisan and get a much better quality then something made in Mexico using whatever they are calling "teak"

Rule of thumb: Never buy anything made of wood larger than your hand that comes sealed in plastic.
