Double Oven Wall Unit HELP!

I am looking to replace a 26 year old Electric Double Wall Unit. It is an old Whirlpool unit and the cutout in the wall can accommodate a unit which is about 57" in height. I am seeing that most double ovens available today are about 51.5 inches. My question is does anyone know of a larger capacity wall unit? If not, any suggestions on how to cover up the gap at the bottom?

I am an admitted novice when it comes to home remodel - so could sure use some advice.

Thanks!

I have a small tip-out drawer front at the bottom of mine, where I store the broiler pan and extra racks.

What a GREAT idea. Thanks so much!

The bigger problem is that wall ovens have grown over the years. The new standard is 30''. Will that fit with the size of the cabinet? If not, then the alterations needed may cost more than buying a whole new cabinet.

That's true, holly. Mine are older and only 27" wide. Luckily, they are on the end of the run if I should need to change them in the future.

A 30" wall oven should really be housed in a 33" cabinet. A 30" in a 30" has to have much of the faceframe support trimmed to work. For frameless, a 30" in a 30" usually works, but needs a filler to avoid interference.

@LWO, I don't know what you mean by needing a filler to work. The 30" ovens I've looked at call for an opening of 28.5" in their installation manual. That's what our oven cabinet is. There is no filler - the oven face is slightly under 30", e.g. 29.5 for Gaggenau and 29 13/16" for our Miele.

The cabinet came with a panel that can be cut to match the size of the oven opening. That panel also pulls the oven front out to match the front face of the doors and drawer fronts - perhaps that what you mean by a filler to avoid interference?

Tamekins, if your cabinets have a panel like I described, perhaps you can get a new one finished to match and make a cut out to match the new oven size.

There are some taller double ovens but that usually seems to be because they use more control panel and/or venting space. There isn't an oven capacity difference between them and the 51-52" ones. The Gaggenau double oven is 56 1/4" and has an oven capacity of 4.5 cubic feet (per oven). The Bosch is 52 1/16" and has an oven capacity of 4.6 cubic feet. Viking is 51 7/8" and oven capacity of 4.7 cubic feet.

(I've been looking at quite a few because of an issue our oven has and because I'd like a side opening door for easier access - I'm short and find it a pain reaching over the door.)

The Gaggenau is about the height you are looking for, but it is really expensive - A Gaggenau single costs more than the Bosch double. You could probably buy something shorter and modify your cabinet to accommodate it for less than the cost of the Gaggenau.

If your cabinets are framed, so you don't have the panel, you could perhaps put in a shelf above or below the oven with the front edge finished to match your cabinets and leave it open. Or add a drawer below the oven and finish the drawer front to match. Or perhaps do a flip down door below the oven and use it to store the grill pan or baking sheets.

I like the idea of storage. but you will need a strong support shelf at the bottom between drawer and the oven. If your gap is at the top, you could use a thin front filler with overlay panel to cover the gap. Frigo designs can probably make a stainless filler for you also.

One that might work if you can go slightly taller is American Range. Their double uses a cut out of 57 1/2" and is 58 5/8" tall.
