Kitchen plan - please give your feedback!

I'm attaching the plans for our soon to be built home, please give your feedback on the layout of the kitchen. I love the look of a corner cooktop and would like to keep that if possible. The hood and refrigerator will be covered in hickory, cabinets and floor are hickory as well.

I've attached the layout of the kitchen to give you more details on actual room sizes. We most likely will not have pocket doors to the sunroom, and I would like a larger windown over the sink.

How many people will cook in this kitchen? I personally really like corner cooktops, but, if installed as you show it, they don't have much "butt-room." If more than one person will cook, you really need about 5" lateral room on either side of the cooktop. This winds up eating up a lot of room -- something like 53" along the walls. (Even a 30" cooktop set the way you have it eats up a lot -- something like 46" minimum.)

On your plan, is there any reason the fridge cannot slide away from the sink to create some more counterspace?

Your plan does not leave much room between the range and sink. If it were mine, I'd move the fridge and then scootch the sink away from the cooktop.

Needs at least 3' more depth to the kitchen, and 5' would be better. That would enable getting that cooktop out of the corner and alleviate the pinch point between the island and post. I also am not a fan of the garage with house attached look that this will present from the street, and the hunt for the front door that that will cause. The garage to kitchen route shouldn't be so far. The house should basically be flipped but keep the garage in the same place to solve that issue.

Overall, not too bad for a first draft, but it needs revising a couple of times before it's right.

I'd move the doors (windows?) at the bottom of the dinette area further right, then as Angie said move the ref over to the right to create a longer counter run on the bottom. You might be able to lengthen the island a bit too, depending on the size and configuration of the table for the dinette area.

As mentioned above, I'd love to get you more depth. You have plenty of space top to bottom in your picture, but not much wall space in that direction.

There will be two people cooking. I was really set on the corner cooktop, but I can see that moving it might be a better option. Would ou love it to the wall on the pantry or next to the sink, and extend that counter top down further?

I can't speak to anything but the sunroom doors.

WHY wouldn't you go with pocket or barn doors? Do you realize that each regular door takes up 9 square feet of space? If building, give yourself that extra wall space. I swear you'll wonder (as I do) why anyone wastes time and space on regular doors.

When we started to rebuild after a fire, we planned pocket doors thru out the house. I've since installed 15 of them.

Are you settled on cooktop/wall oven vs. a range?

Reason I ask: I think the best solution would be a range on the pantry wall. If you want to use a wall oven, I don't know where to put it if you move the cooktop to the pantry wall. (I don't think you can fit that and a wall oven as well on that wall.)

You don't really have very much countertop space (or storage) between any of the major appliances, with 4'-0 aisle spaces, making it awkward for more than one person to be active in the kitchen at a time. If this works for you and your cooking style, go for it. If it were me, I'd be looking for more space--counter and person, particularly in the vacinity of range and refrigerator, where often more than one person seems to be. Good luck!
