need some feedback: kitchen layout round 2

Below are two options -

option A: no window counter

pros: double trash, bank of drawers next to sink, large pot drawers on either side of range

cons: less counter space, less undercounter storage

option B: window counter

pros: nice look, more counter space (place for standmixer), more undercounter shelf space for pantry items,

cons: single trash, the only drawer on sink side would be a single drawer which opens above trash can, smaller pot drawers on right of range

right now the materials are: calacutta gold counter and backsplash, walnut cabinets (with glass sliding doors on lower cabinets right over sink.

this is the sink side elevation of option a:

All things considered I would probably go for the plan without the counter under the window.

Have you considered a ledge under the window against the structural column near the range elevation that still allowed access to the drawers on the sink elevation?

Have you considered a 33" sink base to get the double trash in the plan with the counter? An 18" Miele DW for the same reason?

18" trash cabinet...can be a double-bin if you're OK with 35 quart bins.

Could you post bigger pictures?

palimpsest: don't see how a ledge would not obstruct access to drawers.....

the sink base is set up to hold the kohler 45" stages sink (which I really want!)

I already have the dishwasher! So can't change that!

buehl: I could definitely consider putting two smaller trash cans in the single trash drawer! good idea!

below is a link that has higher res versions of my layout pics.

thanks for looking!

A partial ledge or partial set of shelves against that structural column at the top right of the picture. It would have to stop partway under the window for drawer access: Could work, could look awful, would probably have to mock up to see.

just an update - I realized that if I went with the miele integrated fridges I could get more room for my coat closet/cleaning supplies closet. So now instead of the subzero 27" columns I think I'm going to get the 18" freezer 30" fridge miele combo. The freezer has 8 cu ft. which whhile nothing compared to the 16 cu ft of the subzero will be ample freezer storage for us.

this gets me 6 more inches! whohooo!!!

The fabricator finally called the stone yard and put a hold on my calacatta gold and I'm hoping to get pictures of the slabs soon so I can figure out how many I'll need (I want as much swaths of white without too much veining as possible)

and I got the finishes from henrybuilt. very pretty quartersewn walnut....
