We were so close

I don't really have a question I guess, but the painter who was supposed to put the top kitchen cabinet doors back on and finish replacing the baseboards --- and was supposed to have finished these simple tasks a couple of days ago - now says it will take until Monday - Because - he suddenly decided he didn't like the visible seam between 2 of my NEW custom kitchen cabinets that he FINISHED painting a couple of weeks ago - so has smeared the entire east section of cabinet up to one door) with some kind of spackle, then didn't like how he did it, and apparently spent hours and hours at this. And then he put more of it on a couple of the drawer fronts - so now he has to SPRAY all this again, which means totally taping off another room, etc etc etc. Then he wanted to show me places on the new floor where some nails are showing --

AND, it was clear by the smell that either he or his helper had been drinking, then he hit me up for $300 (no bill, he just needs some money - my rule is no bill = no check)

And tried talking me (all the way to my car) into replacing the exterior doors he spent days and days and days painting over and over, though now they stick to the doorframe and have pulled all their paint off there. (Sure we will replace them, but he won't be involved.)

sigh. we were planning on spending the weekend cleaning up and getting the electrician in to finish a few things - then get set up to put in our countertops, then Move Back IN.....will this ever end?

So sorry you are going through this disappointment with your project and with your tradesman. It WILL end. Try to do something nice for yourselves this weekend, and get OUT of the house if you can.

I know what you are going through- unfortunately! I have had so many delays, that though we started in May, I wanted it all done by Christmas- but I forgot to state which year- we started May 07, maybe kitchen will be done by Christmas 08!!!

Kitchen company had errors and omissions- they hired a carpenter to build/fix cupboards- while scheduling second carpenter (first didn't work out- after seven months and he said it would take 2 weeks), they declared bankruptcy. We have hired our own carpenter to get things done- hopefully he WILL be done within two weeks, and then we can start on finishing things like crown molding, light rail trim, toe kicks, panels for the back of the peninsula, window trims, and oh yeah- getting the granite fixed!

I too am sorry you are going through this. Is there another carpenter you can use who might not be drinking on the job? Don't know if you used a contractor, but I would complain to him/her if you did.

Hey, just a suggestion on the paint sticking doors - when the paint is dry, but not completely cured yet smear a little vaseline where the painted areas are going to touch. In a few days you can wipe the vaseline off and the paint will look great.
