Sinks too deep

Help

I am about to order my sink on line from Ticor. They are very nice sinks but a few people have said it is too deep and sometimes makes your back hurt when bending over.

Does anyone who has a deep sink (9 1/2 inches deep) have any problems. Do you love it or hate it?

Also, do you know of any others that are not so deep?

I have a Ticor sink that I ordered from Galaxy Tool Supply. It is 9in deep and the depth is not a problem for me. I have a large single bowl rectangular sink (do not remember the model number) but the sink is very flat and does not drain well. I am not sure if it is the design of the sink or an installation problem. I love the look of the sink but it takes a little extra work to get all the water out.

Mine is 12" deep. I'm already in love after washing stove parts in it :)

I have the Ticor s112, it is 10 inches deep with about 2 more inches for the undermount. I LOVE IT! I love it more everyday. As far as I'm concerned, it could never be 'too deep'. It's huge and it's perfect! I do think that galaxy has a big single ticor that is 8 inches deep. I'm not 100% sure it's a ticor.....if it doesn't come with a grid it may not be. I love the grid too! I'm 5'6" and the sink is my favorite new thing hands down. (how sad is that?!)

I'm discovering that the chintzy, very shallow sink in the apartment we're in (while building) is much easier on my back than the nice deep sink in our last house. However, in the old house, I discovered that when I had lots of standing at the sink to do, if I set a 9x13 baking pan upside down in the sink and put a dishpan on top of it, it raised the level just enough that it didn't hurt my back -- and I had the advantage of a deep sink when I needed it.

has anyone else had a draining problem with the ticor sink as jackiemcg did. I never thought about it being too flat before.

If you have a deep sink, you're less likely to have back issues if the sink is pulled forward as far as possible in the cabinet box.

That is to say, the closer the sink is to your body, the less you will have to reach O-U-T, which is what puts strain on the back.

    Good luck!

No, no problems here...but my big bowl is a "D" shape.

Jackiemcg, do you have the rectangular sink with the zero radius corners (sharp corners as opposed to the rounded corners)? I seem to recall the zero radius sinks sometimes had this problem. I don't remember if it turned out to be installation issues w/that sink or if it was the sink itself. Perhaps someone who remembers the details will chime in.

I am 5' 6" and haven't experienced any back issues at the sink. I have the deep 'D' shaped Ticor sink, undermounted with 3 cm granite. I use the grids and LOVE them! The grid offsets the depth by an inch, I would say. But no issues or concerns with the depth. Just Love, Love, Love!

We have a deep sink from Blanco with a grid and I love it as I can have dishes in it and still cook/wash hands with no problem. I'd get deep again if I had to make the choice.

We have a deep sink and although I love it, it does cause back strain but only because it had to be pushed back from the front of the cabinet quite a bit in order to fit. The sink base is pulled out 3 inches from the other cabinets and has angled corners on the front so the sink couldn't sit at the very front of the cabinet because its not wide enough. Therefore we have a 7 inch space in front of the sink that you have to lean over. I just put my sink grid in yesterday so hopefully that will help with the strain. The other good news is that I don't actually wash dishes very often so it may not be a very big deal and the big sink allows me to hide lots of dirty dishes until I feel like running the dishwasher.

I have a deep double bowl sink in my home and have never had any comfort issues using it. I'm 5' tall.

I am 5'1 and I am hoping I can get the sink installed no more than 3 inches from the front of the counter. Hopefully about 2 to 2.5 inches if possible. I have heard that a lot of people have 4 inches of space and do not really like it.
    Any thoughts on that?

After hearing a few complaints, I asked about TicorÂs drainage problems on the Plumbing Forum awhile back. I was told that, "a properly designed sink should have all the edges sloping down to the drain. If a corner has standing water it means the installation is not level."

I ended up getting a 10" deep Silgranit sink. I'm 5'7" and I notice the depth a tiny bit when I'm doing the last of the dishes and reaching for the silverware at the bottom. But, it's not a big deal and I'd choose a deep sink again, if given the choice. I'm VERY happy with it.

My Mom has a very deep sink. I don't like it. I am only 5'2" and I find my 8.5 inch deep sink to be perfect for me. Also, in my small kitchen, I needed the space underneith the sink for storage, garbage disposal, space for the reverse osmosis, etc.

I have a deep Ticor sink and I don't have any problems with how deep it is (I'm 5'7" and perhaps that makes a difference?) I love the depth - I can hide big roasting pans in it.

BUT - I don't mean to hijack - I think I have the same sink as Jackiemcg. We cursed when we saw how poorly designed it was for draining;( In retrospect it's not turned into a major issue, but if these companies properly tested their products, this design could have been corrected.

buehl - yes, it is the zero radius sink (sharp edges)

As clax66 said, it is not a major issue. I still like the sink just wish it drained better.

A number of people have pointed out on other threads, that with these deep sinks it's important to have a faucet with as long a "reach" as possible, so as to bring the water stream closer to you. Sort of the same effect as having the front of the sink as close to the edge as possible. Ideal, of course, is a long reach faucet with a short space for the counter in front of the sink.

Essentially you want to be able to wash your dishes as close to your body as you can, without having to be reaching out at the same time.

I have the Ticor s112. It is deep, but when you factor in the space that the grate takes up, it's not quite so deep. This sink has no draining problems. I'd recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.

I'm only 5'2" and panicked when I saw threads about deep sinks and back pain. I had already ordered a 10" deep blanco silgranit to be undermounted.

Now that I've been living with it for four months I can honestly say that I haven't had any issues. I do have the sink grid, but also have 4" of granite in front of the sink. I have no other back problems otherwise, but at 48 am sure feelin' other aches and pains! BTW, I hardly ever use my dishwasher.

We put in an Elkay undermount SS sink with dual 10" bowls. It is pretty deep, far deeper than we were used to. So far, no complaints.

Interestingly, the sink we used, the ELUH361710, is part of Elkays commercial line, not residential. So it isn't on display at places like HD Expo or the typical plumbing supply house. However it was exactly what my wife was looking for. Both bowls are the same size and depth. And both have the drains towards the rear of the bowls.

I have a deep double undermount SS sink [Telka] and I love it!! The only negative thing that I've noticed is...twice now I have bumped my head on the door pull above the sink because I'm 5'7" and I guess I was bowing my head to see in the sink:) It hurts when I bump it too:) I forget that the door pull is right there. I guess if I get enough contusions I'll learn. LOL

I have the 18" round Ticor sink as a prep sink and the CTECH Britannia (also sold by Galaxy) as my main sink. I love both sinks. I never liked stainless sinks in the past, but these undermount sinks are gorgeous and very utilitarian. I am 5'4" and FAT and have no trouble with the depth of either sink.
