kitchen design software

Any suggestions for some user friendly, simple kitchen design software (free or inexpensive) that I would be able to use at home and be able to see my kitchen in 3d?

The main problem I'm having with what I have now, or what I have found, is that the island is hard to design. Also that i'd like to put in there dimensions of certain areas (length of pantry walls, etc)...I can only measure one spot at a time, and can only measure one area, when I measure another area the original measurement goes away. Plus, it will do it on screen, but won't print the measurement.

I'm having my cabinets custom built, and I'm sure most softwares will only let me put in standard size cabinets, but I can handle that I guess.

I guess inexpensive is a matter of opinion, as is ease of use.

I paid $165 for Chief Architect Architectural Home Designer 9.0 software which was considerably less expensive than hiring someone to design and provide printouts (for permits) which would have run, according to quotes $2500 to $5,000.

AND...it was FUN! (:

I don't know if it is new, or not popular with this crowd, but you can do a lot on Floorplanner.com When you go to post on here though, make it be b&w to get feedback. Too much color and people get annoyed, I've noticed. That website is free.

We used Chief Architect too. Definitely a learning curve. Also, in order to get everything correct, this WILL take time on your part. I.E. someone needs to take all the measurements. Whether you pay someone or do it yourself... :)

That said, Chief Architect gives you a great walkthrough and was a good tool.

Keep asking -- hopefully, you'll find something which does the same, but much less expensive! Best, Oldbat2be
