One the advice of positano I am posting this in the discussion section (Originally posted in the Gallery)since a lot of people don't seem to visit the Gallery section as much.

A lot of the design and accessories ideas came from GW, so I want to thank to everyone here for their ideas and input.

I first fell in love with that granite with Mamadadapaige's kitchen. It is spectacular! your kitchen is just gorgeous with the cherry and green. Great job! Is your Ocean Green Stone honed or polished?

Very cool. thanks for posting over here. It is so fun to see the completed kitchens!!!

Beautiful kitchen. I love your accessories too--the chairs, pendants, rug. Enjoy!

Glad to see you posted over here! I actually found that granite yesterday and had a sample honed. I love it, but it is really out of my budget. Is yours honed or polished?

I'm in love with the work side of your island, Grendal. What a great place to cook big time, and with winter and the holidays coming up I expect you will be. I chop a lot of veggies, but my cutting board's a little thing that gets dropped in the cupboard. I want that one. :) Happy cooking!

Great job grendal! I love the rounded island, so different. Your granite is amazing!

    Thanks to all,
The rounded island was an idea I had after cooking at a friends house. I kept hitting the end of the island with my hip when I was rushing to the refrigerator from the prep area. This way my work triangle has open paths and I have yet to hit the island.

Pluckymana and Positano. The stone is honed and I was told that it was only offered honed. All the slabs we looked at were honed as well. Here is a picture of one of the slabs from the warehouse.

I was worried about how this stone would hold up, but so far it has really been great. No stains water marks etc. I will probably need to re-seal it in the next 3-4 months as some of the areas are starting to not bead water from excessive use.

Now that I look in your gallery, I see that the stone is called Ocean stone, not Ocean Green. Where did you find it? The place I found Ocean Green wanted an extra $15sf to hone it. It was already listed as a double gold stone, so the $15 sf on top of it would be pushing it.

I like yours even better, is Ocean Stone another name for Ocean Green?

I'm in New Jersey, but I'm interested to hear where you found this.

Thanks!! Glad to hear it is holding up so well. I love the way it looks.

And do you mind if I ask how much it was a sf?

Great kitchen! Love the countertops too--and the rounded island is definitely a bonus feature! I still bump into my square edges, and visiting kids often bonk their little heads on it. Sigh. One of the many changes I will make if we redo these countertops!

Question: Are the stools from DWR? Comfy? Sturdy?

    Positao,
The stone was called Ocean Stone, but it does look like the Ocean Green Mamadadapaige has. I am in the Chicago suburbs, and only one supplier that I could find (Marble and Granite Supply of Illinois) had it and they only dealt with a couple of fabricators. I ended up paying about $100 / sq ft installed for 1 1/4" stone with the two sinks mounted and reinforcement rods for the island overhang. This job required 3 full slabs.

The stools are very comfy and sturdy and clean up really nice. They are made with solid steel wrapped in leather and are from Crate and Barrel and come in many colors.

Thanks so much for the info....that is out of my budget and close to the price of the slabs I found near me. Why does everything I love have to be the most expensive!

    Very nice.

grendal_fly, I just love your floors (thanks again for posting the pics since I am considering Brazilian cherry), love your Stainless Steel double door side by side stove with the red knobs (I love the color red), love your beautiful Stainless Steel refrigerator with the extra drawers, and I love the red accents (beautiful comfortable looking stools and pot). I also have red pots and pans and a red tea kettle to add a little color to my kitchen. Finally I love that the island has rounded edges with that beautiful stone top. Thank you for sharing.

    Lynn2006,
I am out of town at the moment, but I will take some additional pictures of the floors so show you how they look it large open areas as well as in hallways. I will also take some pictures of area where we have had rugs for the last 4 months so you can see how much darker the floors get with age. Now that the upper cabinet lighting is finished, My wife has also finished decorating the upper ledges of the cabinets with additional red accent pieces so I will try to get a couple of shots showing them as well as it took me a while to get her to buy into the red accent concept, but now she has embraced it completely (She just bought a red laptop).

grendal_fly, thank you so much! I am looking forward to the pictures. I think I am going to add more red accents also so I can't wait to see your pictures for ideas.

    Lynn2006,
As promised here are some additional pictures of the floors as well as the some showing the accents.

These will give you an idea of how dark it will get over time versus the original color

And here are some shots showing the red accents
