Can a double oven go next to a fridge?

You know I never paid attention to floor plans.

I think I have seen the fridge next to the double oven. Is this ok?

Anybody regret it and if so, why?

Thanks mucho,

Bee

As long as the handles of the ovens don't collide with the fridge door, yes.

As plllog said, as long as the handles do not hit one another, it is not a problem. We did our kitchen a little over a year ago and have double ovens next to a French door fridge. I have not had a single problem and have had no issues with "hot" being next to "cold" as both are totally insulated. HTH

I would probably consider an arrangement where the doorswing would be away from the oven doors anyway.

A friend of mine had a huge dent/scratch put into her french door refrigerator when she had the oven door open and a guest at her housewarming party (trying to be helpful) opened the fridge door and creased it on the open oven door. The house was just moved into, and the fridge had a $400 dent in it. (The cost of a new door, she left it)

She didn't care all that much but it was a negotiating point when she sold the house a couple years later.

Pal, now I see danger. And as a mother I usually can predict disaster quite easily. Thanks. I must be tired.

I will keep this disaster in mind.

I have that same dent and it was also a visitor that did it during the first month of use. 16 years later, no more dents happened... and in a smaller kitchen there is just so much room and the placement worked. So I put them right next to each other again in the new kitchen and I don't regret it.

besides things swinging into each other, you are probably ok as long as you read the appliance specs first. Most appliances are insulated enough that this is ok, but some of the less expensive appliances specifically say not to put double ovens next to fridges...

Just put our double wall oven next to our french door fridge. I looked around a lot at houzz.com and other sites and saw it done quite often. Only thing I don't like is that is seems like a big blob of stainless steel in one chunk at the end of the kitchen. However, it works wonderfully and since I think my appliances are gorgeous, I don't mind!

Yes, but when the oven is in use it will marginally increase the energy used by both appliances.

We do. In an L plus island kitchen, I prefer that arrangement because it keeps the tall things at one end of the L. Otherwise, you would either have a tall block at each end of the L or in the midst of the L somewhere interrupting the counter space.

Brickeye, Our oven cabinet is on the end of the run next to a door and that side of the cabinet doesn't feel warm when the oven is in use, so I doubt that there is any significant heat impact on refrigerator efficiency from it. The outside of the refrigerator warmer than ambient (though not necessarily by much if one has left proper air space) since the refrigerator cools itself by pumping heat out of the box to the air around it so it wouldn't increase the energy used by the ovens.

We have had that arrangement for 28 years without denting the fridge door. (And I thought that I lived in a house with people who aren't ultra-gentle in using things.) I don't remember anyone ever opening the fridge door while someone else had the oven open - after all, one usually doesn't have the oven open for long. Our old fridge was single door swinging toward the oven so presumably had that risk.

The replacement fridge, which is a few years old, is french door Samsung. I just checked - with the upper oven door open, the handle of the french door is what hits the oven door. The handle is pretty hefty and would be unlikely to dent. The lower oven door would be next to the freezer drawer well below the fridge door when open.

Since our oven doors are mainly black glass with a small steel frame, I don't find it an overwhelming amount of stainless steel either.

Agreed. Handles MUST match for fridge + Ovens. i.e same brand same line for both items.

Ours aren't the same brand. Our fridge is a Samsung and our ovens are Miele. I don't think that Samsung even makes a wall oven. The handles happen to have a similar curved shape, but we didn't look for that when selecting the fridge.

I am planning to put fridge beside my wall mount oven but depth of a regular 36 'fridge is more than wall oven. Should i buy counter depth fridge? or its ok to have portion of fridge stick out by few inches.? I will have modern look ktichen.

My face lit up when I saw a comment from beekeeperswife, but then I realized this thread is 9 years old.

We have an induction range with a convection oven. Because I've read so much about the sensitivity of the electronics panels to overheating, leading to breakdowns, we leave the oven door open when we are finished using it until we hear the fan stop, and then some until the oven has cooled considerably (usually no more than 10-15 minutes in total). The comments mostly addressed the possiblility of the refrigerator door getting dented by an open oven door, but not so much having hot air get into the refrigerator/freezer if you open it when the oven door is open. Maybe there is a difference when you have wall ovens as opposed to a range next to the refrigertor/freezer?

What thoughts do you have about a refrigerator/freezer next to an oven having to work harder because of the extra heat? Thanks! (And, I do miss beekeeperswife and the older regulars.)

Can I put a french door refrigerator with bottom freezer next to a double oven that also has french doors? Each appliance requires both doors to be open fully. I see a major conflict . My builder says it is not a problem since the oven isn't open often. The refrigerator manufacturer representative I spoke with said the conflict was with the heat source so close. Any thoughts?

I have been thinking about doing a bilt-in oven/microwave combo next to a french door fridge. Most refrigerators have an air intake in the front, along the floor. If the built-in oven is up off the floor, most of the heat will be away from the intake. So, it shouldn't increase the power consumption of the fridge at all, and if some, very little. The cabinet that I am building in order to house the fridge and wall oven will have a divider, separating the oven and fridge, so they have their own spaces.

Interesting, Outdoor Animal. I think people would be wise to double check where the air intake is on the refrigerator they are interested in, just to be sure. Your answer helps with whether there is residual heat from an adjacent oven. I guess I was thinking of older ovens that were not so well insulated and so heated up the surrounding cabinet walls, not realizing new models would be much better at containing the heat instead of transmitting it. Here is an another interesting discussion; this one on the allowance of space around the refrigerator: Kitchen designer did not allow for air flow on sides of refrigerator
