This is a very good idea!

I did something for the same purpose, although not as wide, with my big sink. Basically, I had the divider a little lower so I can rest my cast iron skillet on there while washing it.

It's good to have something like this when you have a deep sink because you can prop up a pot or whatever when washing and not strain your back.

Here is a link that might be useful:

Dear sabjimata, I hadn't thought of that! Of course, you are right that being able to prop up/ raise whatever one is working on could be a big help. Thanks, as always, for your sage and generous kitchen advice.

I have a new Stages sink in my rustic New Mexico home (exposed adobe walls, knotty alder cabinets). I'm reasonably happy with the sink and truly love the large single bowl. I'm having issues keeping the sink looking clean, but that could be due to not yet having the water softener installed (we're on a well with 6 grains hardness). I use the work area at the side to drain my dishes and rest heavy items to scrub them, I'm very happy with that aspect of using the sink.

My kitchen is so new I haven't used all the features of the sink yet: the accessories for instance. I do think the diamond plate design in the sink you're considering is a very good idea. Your decision might come down to whether you want a double bowl. Good luck on your choice.
