Bisque Appliances ?!?

We just had our cabinets installed- an off white. We are using ORB pulls and cup pulls. I had intended to get new SS appliances, but our old stove and dishwasher (in a bisque) that work just fine, actually look OK. I need to buy a new fridge and an over the range Micro, but never thought of keeping the bisque (previous owner had them, I hated them the whole time but now....)Countertops will be Raven by Caeserstone- a dark charcoal grey.

Is Bisque outdated or do you think it works? Or should I just go ahead for new SS appliances (I'm looking at Electrolux range/micro, bosch dw, and a Kitchen Aid FD fridge.)

I haven't even begun to think of paint colors...or backsplashes...my head hurts just thinking of the decisions I need to make!

BTW, I'm new to this site and there are some CRAZY DREAM kitchens on here...there are some lucky users on this site!!!

You can mix. Keep the old bisque until it dies and get the stainless other things (or black--just not white of course!).

I don't think that bisque is dated. I think it can look great when the appliances blend into the cabinets and you have other focal points. Put up an eye-catching tile backsplash. Or, put up some bright art or wall paint. Plus, it is more eco-friendly to keep what still works.

There's another thread (quite active) about a white kitchen that won't sell. In that kitchen, all appliances are white and a few folks told her to change them all to SS. My take on that...I'd keep the built in stuff (ie her microwave, dishwasher, etc. all white as they are, and change only the fridge.

I personally hate white or bisque appliances, but will only make an exception to that evil feeling...when they're enscounced in lovely matching cabinets.

We have ORB cup pulls, a cream colored island, and medium cherry cabinets on the perimeter. We have bisque fridge, DW, oven, and MW. We have black induction cooktop with ss trim, ss warming drawer under it, and 2 ss sinks. I liked the bisque, think it looks great with the two different colored cabinets, and didn't want to pay the several hundred dollars of upcharges for the ss.

So it really depends on how much you care! And maybe how the kitchen is set up. And whether you care if someone else looks at it and thinks it's not ok. We have 22 friends (not relatives) coming for a pot luck after Thanksgiving to see our new house. I'll bet none of them notice that the appliances don't match. If they do, we won't care. Also, there are plenty of other things in the house that aren't design or decorator perfect!

I think your bisque looks great. Personally, I'm not wild about stainless steel and think that it has become way overused. I think people should go with what they truly like and what works with their decor and personal style. Also, I don't see a need to replace something that works fine with something trendy, particularly since it looks so nice in the space.

White, bisque, black are classics and will never truly be "out" although some will claim they are.

fori's idea is good. Keep the stuff that still works and get your new fridge in whatever finish you like...you can replace the old ones when they die to match.

I think your bisque appliances look great in your kitchen. I also have bisque appliances with cream cabinets. My appliances were only a few years old, I really liked them and they did not need to be replaced. I also think that SS would look nice if that's what you like. I did add a 24" u/c refrigerator that I got in SS with a glass front and I think it looks good in my kitchen. If you like ss I think it will look fine with the bisque as you replace your applicances. I'll give you this link to my kitchen if you haven't seen it yet. Good luck!

I think you should first decide what you prefer long-term: stainless or bisque. For every person who dislikes bisque, you'll find someone who dislikes stainless (me; I hate it!). Decide what YOU prefer.
If you really like the look of stainless (and are willing to do the increased maintenance), then you could just replace what what you need to right now. See how it looks with your new frig and micro. I think a stainless micro over a bisque range won't look so hot. So, I'd either put in a bisque micro or change out the range.
I don't think the DW matters so much, but if you do replace, my preference is to get one that you can panel to match your cabinets.
I think bbtondo's kitchen is a great example of pretty counters and backsplash, with the appliances receding into the background.

I think it depends on whether you plan on moving in the forseeable future or if you are planning on staying for a while.

The stainless option would probably be more attractive to potential buyers. If you're not going to move, then go with what you like.

The bisque looks like it is a pretty close match to your cabinetry. If you also like stainless steel you could put in stainless countertops and then feel free to add stainless or bisque appliances as the mood suits you - the counters will work with either choice.

I just redid my kitchen in off white cabinets.MY fridge was 2 years old and bisque. The rest of the appliances were older and I wanted them replaced.I decided to go with bisque appliances rather than buy a new fridge.I used a madura gold counter top and copper brown hardware and wood floor and I'm so happy I didnt go with the flow with stainless.I love how the appliances just blend in and the softness of the bisque and it got me thinking, appliances aren't the prettiest things so why would I want them to stand out?As far as resale ,the way the trends change unless you are selling in the near future who knows what the color will be when you want to sell.

I love bisque and white. Not crazy about stainless steel. Personally think it's over done and going to be dated soon. Do what you like. Don't worry so much about trends. You have to live there.

We are currently gutting our existing and very old kitchen. I bought the appliances two years ago. I didn't want any extra upkeep and didn't particularly like stainless. White and black both seem too stark, so we chose bisque. Bisque appliances were harder to find, but we're very happy with them!

I think your bisque looks perfect. But this is coming from a person with white appliances who is planning on white cabinets, so I may be a little biased. I like the look of SS, but I had them in the past and they weren't for me (and that was even before I had a kid!). My mom put brand new bisque appliances in her kitchen and had the same reservations you do, but they look great.

I do not think bisque appliances are outdated! I think they add a very warm touch to a kitchen. I think SS looks nice in other people's kitchens, however, I worked in a deli in high school (100 years ago) and find that SS kind of reminds me of a commercial kitchen.

I would love to see your kitchen with the countertops in. Please post a followup pic. So far, it looks great.

bbtondo - LOVE your countertops. Can I ask for the maker/color?

    bbtondo,

Hi, I love your kitchen. I am doing a kitchen renovation using a natural maple cabinet with a vanilla glaze. The bisque would look great with it, but it's getting hard to find.

Could you tell me what kind of refrigerator you have and the size? I am going crazy trying to find a Bisque refrigerator with a smooth not textured finish. Also is your range the Maytag double oven? I was thinking of getting it, but was concerned with the main oven being so low. I'm by myself, so I would be mostly using the top oven, but don't know how I would like using the bottom oven when entertaining. I would appreciate any advise you could give. Also what did you use for the countertop? Thanks Gail
