Does granite chip on edges?

I have a negative reveal around my sink. I'm constantly hitting the edge of the granite with my hard pots while doing dishes. If I hit it hard enough will it chip? I try to be very careful but the sink is small.

We have Verde Peacock and a negative reveal. After 2 years, we do have one little chip maybe 5mm long and 1-2mm deep on the sink edge. I suspect it is where a small crystal was cut in two and is therefore prone to chipping? You can't see it unless you get very close and I only notice it when I run my hand around the edge. Definitely not bothersome enough to get it fixed!

My brother and SIL's granite counter has a fairly large (~2.5") chip in the corner of the sink. Like ovenbird mentioned, it's right where there was a variation in the stone (don't know if it's a crystal). It was the result of my nephew attempting to help clean up by tossing a cast iron frying pan into the sink. In almost five years since their remodel, that is the only chip, but it happened almost immediately and freaked out my poor SIL. She thought that she would have to endure many more like it, but she hasn't.

My sister in law just commented to me that her granite edging around her sinks has 2-3 chips where she hits her dishes around the sides (i.e. putting her dishes in the dishwasher). It is typhoon green so don't know if some granites chip easier than others. It has a glassy finish where our granite doesn't. We have had our granite for 3 1/2 years and i have yet to get a chip. May not be as pretty as the typhoon green but it has held up for a good amount of time!!!

is this a reason to consider a positive reveal or would it not make a difference?

I have had no chips in my 5 yr granite with negative reveal.

I think it is a personal thing. My DSO is the pot & pan washer of the house and he's not too careful. It's OK with me since I don't especially like the job. So a little chip is a small price to pay!

    Thanks everyone,
I have a sizeable negative reveal with two rather small very square sinks. I do all my dishes by hand and hit the edges a lot with the pots. The other day I chipped my lacquerwed cabinets with a small cutting board that hit the edge. I'm careful but there isn't much room to wash the pots. I wasn't thinking enough about dish washing when I did this kitchen. In retrospect I wish I had a 18" dishwasher.

My granite is very small-grained with a negative reveal and there are no chips - and I wash a lot of large pots.
