Dead space over sink?

Another conundrum. When the soffits come down and taller uppers are installed there will be a 54" "dead" space across the top of the (only) kitchen window. Dead space height above the window will be about 12" to the ceiling; top of uppers to ceiling is about 7". Make sense? It's a very simple kitchen plan, so there won't be very ornate molding to hide behind. Do we:

1. Do nothing. Just put a couple of can lights in the ceiling. Seems pretty bare.

2. Run some type of shelf at cabinet height with molding to hide electricals for pendants?

3. Install cabinets to fill the 54" x 12" space (and hide electricals). This will create an uneven cabinet run, but I see a number of people going with this look. There will be a 15" cab with frosted or simple stained glass front on each side of the window, so we could carry through with that design.

Pictures would be such a help! Thanks.
