Revised Floorplan

Thank you all for your previous excellant comments. I have made a few revisions from your suggestions and I think its so much better now. Moved the microwave to a drawer type to add a landing next to the oven and put the prep sink in the island. I am working on my husband to take the suggeston to enclose those wine glasses behind a cabinet. My hubby likes how they look hanging so I am working on convincing him that a lighted cabinet would look good too. Measurements: 16x20 without nook. 10' ceilings. 42' between island and range, 54' between island and double sink. 60' between refrigerator and island. What do you think???

IIRC, one of the reasons you didn't want the prep sink in the island was that you wanted a big expanse for buffet serving and prep space. How about swapping the positions of the DW and the prep sink so that you can have both the prep sink and the long expanse of counter?

Also, consider doing a trash under the prep sink instead of losing valuable island storage space to a pullout trash. If you choose a prep sink with a rear or rear corner drain you'll have plenty of room for both a garbage disposal and a trash.

alku- Good memeory. Yes the buffet was my main concern for not wanting the sink in the island. My husband pointed out we prep daily versus buffets a few times a year so the daily use would have to win out. My husband and I cook together so I thought putting the dishwasher on that side would give space on that side to chop and prep plus give us both access to the sink. I was wondering though if that really is enough space? I believe it will be 32" or so. I don't know if any I should add for the end fluted decoration and counter overhang.

Love your idea about the trash under the sink. I had allowed for 19" for a double waste. We have to recycle here so I thought for two trash cans I would need to allot that much. Can you put a pull out under the sink? I am thinking of getting the Rohl 6347 sink. It does have the drain in the back. However I am still looking for a pretty sink. Would love something darker since my granite is in the browns.

Looks wonderful...Do you have/do you want 15" of overhang for the island seating? That's what's recommended for counter height, and it'll make it easier to tuck those stools all the way under when you don't want them in your way.

Thanks rhome I do. I can't tell by the blueprint if there is. I will make sure to tell the granite people 15".

Also I have a TV planned above the landing space by the oven. It can't be recessed because of viewing angles. How high should it go to be out of the way of the landing??

I'd try for at least 18-24" above the counter.

FYI...you can get a 2-can trash pullout in a cabinet with a 12" opening. (Approx 15" cabinet if face frame.) [See the link. I think I've seen it cheaper elsewhere, so shop around if you go with it.]

But, if you're short on under counter space, I agree w/Alku--that's what we are going to do for just that reason!

Do you know if that is the size of the tall kitchen bags from costco?

I have the next size bigger trash pullout from Rev-a-Shelf and it takes the costco tall kitchen bags. I think the cans are the 50 qt ones. But mine would be too big for under a sink. The one buehl posted would be good for that.

To clarify...we will have a trash pullout for the main trash & recycle next to the main/cleanup sink but I will put a small trash can under the prep sink for prep trash or, possibly, compost. We couldn't sacrifice more storage for a second trash pullout.

Like others have said on other threads, if the main trash/recycle can is under a sink it becomes an issue if you have to ask whoever is working in front of the sink to move...

Good for you - looking better

I'd still be concerned about the lack of drop zone near the refrig wall - you have 2 fridges & 1 freezer there and really no drop zone -

Also on cooktop wall -why the pull out on the far right side & small bank of drawers on the left side - then narrow pullouts near cook top - I think there could be better use of base there - I would consider no pullouts at all and get either 1 larger (more functional) bank of drawers or - 2 banks of drawers - pull outs require additional steps, less function and the narrow ones will really not provide mch-

I would also consider different location for the micro - things that go in the micro are more often from fridge & freezer not from cook top so closer location to fridge may be better suited. I noticed 2 warming drawers - I know you do entertain, but I think i would reconsider 2 drawers esp since you have 2 ovens - There seem to be many that put warming drawers in that don't really use them - just a thought...

Think of function while cooking - you need access utensils right now they would either be countertop (which not all can be) or too far from the actual cooktop - with all that room, there is no reason not to have them right at your fingertips

gotta go - looking good - you will appreciate having greater clearances - i would still try to do some mock up in the existing space - even if it is just blue painters tape.

I would be concerned about the double ovens opening into the doorway.

Thank you for all the comments.
I thought I put a drop zone next to the refrige. I removed the mircrowave and added a 30" counter inbetween the oven and refrigerator? Maybe I dont understand what a drop zone is.

I dont know why I put a pull out on the right of rangetop I guess I was thinking I had tons of drawers especially the big ones. The hidden appliance above the counter I think will be for the mixer so thinking the mixer bowls and attachements can go in the pull out.I could change it.

As far as the small pull outs next to range top I thought they would be good for spice or such and a nice place to put some decorative wood trim.

Next to the rangetop I put the microwave on one side and a warming drawer on the other. I struggled between the 24 or 30" microwave. I chose 30" because it would be symetric with the upper cabinets, no other reason. The microwave inside is really only 24"
I could put the microwave in the island, but I was thinking the drawers for prep items would be more useful. We dont use the microwave to much.
Ok the top drawer to right of rangetop is 30" drawer. I was thinking that would be plenty room for cooking utensils?? What do you think?

I think you're fine for landing space for the oven and fridge with the counter between and island across. I also understand your micro and WD placements. I think you're now into personal preferences of details, rather than real functional concerns, which means your plan is pretty darn good!

Thanks rhome, I needed a little confidence. :-)
