Finished Kitchen

Thanks to everyone for posting such creative ideas and great information! Our kitchen (and other) renovations took a few months to complete. The house is a 1941 colonial. We are really happy with the results.

Even though I'm not usually a blue person, I love how you incorporated it in cool and tasteful ways throughout. I also love that style of backsplash where the accent line leads to the whole field of small tiles behind the range. Very sharp looking. It's lovely. Enjoy working on that island...it looks like a wonderful workspace, situated well for many purposes.

Oooh, I love your microwave (I have one too and really do love it!). All of your colors work so well together, very nice job!

I love blue and I adore your backsplash! You must be totally loving all those wonderfully long expanses of countertop space! What color are your subway tiles?

It seems like so many people are finishing their kitchens in time for the New Year. =)

Congratulations on your beautiful new space!

I can't believe you took that dinky little kitchen and turned it into such a beautiful work space! You not only have a gorgeous, expansive island, but also a huge peninsula. No problem laying out all those Christmas cookies to cool!

I also like how you used fixtures to keep with the integrity of a 1940's house. What could be better than a beautiful, useful kitchen in an older home?

Congratulations on a job well done. It's really beautiful.

What a lovely transformation! Your backsplash choice is dramatic and beautiful. This if my first time seeing Coco Blue granite, and it looks great in your kitchen. Neat way to incorporate a wine shelf below a cookbook area. I'm thinking right now how I could get that to work in my own kitchen. Thanks for including the paint color too. Coordinates well with the red in your other room.

Thanks for the comments! The subway tile is the same style as the floor... white/beige/gray porcelain with rough stone-like edges (Vallelunga brand).

I just love your floor tile and your backsplash as well as your kitchen cabinets! Now I have another cabinet wood species and stain I love. You did a beautiful renovation of your kitchen that I know you are proud of. Thanks for sharing and giving us all ideas.

What a cool space! Amazing tile! I'd love to see more "before" pics - I'm sure the transformation is unbelievable. It must feel amazing to have such a workspace. The kitchen in my 1937 colonial is being redone later this month. I feel somewhat bad about losing the old cabinets but as a workspace it is a nightmare. (I've been looking at those very same lights too)

I'm wondering how I missed this post... great kitchen! I love your light fixtures (we are considering similar ones from schoolhouse electric). I also agree that your backsplash really picks up well on your counter choices.

Great job! I hope you are enjoying it!

Wow your kitchen turned out so nice - so sleek! I have never seen the blue granite before - its beautiful. I can't really tell from the small before photo - but your new kitchen looks bigger!

    Enjoy your beautiful new kitchen!

Really really pretty! I love your choices. So warm and inviting. Great job! Granite is to die for!

Very interesting use of two different granites! How did you decide on those two? Both of them are unusual, and yet they flow together so well!

I somehow missed this FK -- what a transformation!! A wonderful improvement. That island top is so unique!

Your granite is just stunning! And I love the way the backsplash complements them so well. Quite a transformation from the old kitchen! Great job!

Oh, that blue granite is VERY cool!! Great choice!! The granite and the back splash coordinate beautifully. I just love seeing these amazing kitchen transformations. This is a really good one. Congratulations!!

downsy: the kitchen IS bigger :) It went from 8x12 to 16x12.
raehelen: We wanted to incorporate blue, but for us the coco blue was too wild to have all the way around the kitchen and on the island. So we went with a consistent granite for periphery. We were definitely nervous to use two different granites! We love how it came out, though. And we love to find new things in the Coco Blue that we hadn't seen before.

Great looking space! What type of undercabinet lighting is that?

I love it! It looks like a great space to work in, too. Congratulations!

Beautiful transformation! Your backsplash is stunning!

BEautiful granite on your island and I love your backsplash! Great job!

emknc: the undercabinet lights are kichler xenon.

We liked the different shades of blue in the square backsplash tiles. They look a little like glass, but are ceramic.

I love the backsplash mosaic, and I heart that island granite! You certainly knew which items were going to get top billing, and you've set them off beautifully. Well done, and very functional!
