do some kitchens just need a very large range?

Do some kitchens just NEED a range larger than 36 inches, like 48" or 60"?

I know I want 6 burners, but I donÂt need a grill or griddle. But I think that if I have only a 36" range, it would look stunted in my long kitchen. What are your views on this?

Have you seen some amazing large kitchen? WouldnÂt it have been disappointing to see that great kitchen and then see a tiny 36" range?

My kitchen does need a WOW factor, so perhaps a 48" range with the matching 48" hood would be the focal point.

My kitchen isn't that big maybe 14w x 16, and we went with the 48" dual fuel to give the kitchen more space. By using one range/oven instead of a range and double ovens, I was able to have more counter space where I would have had to put in an double ovens. I think my particular kitchen would have looked smaller with two appliances and I do think it's a great focal point.

If you don't need more burners or 2 ovens, I think the range style can make up for some size. I am most disappointed in the appearance of a big kitchen if it has a 30", low profile, sleeker range...One that kind of recedes, but is in the 'focal point' location. The squarer, beefier lines of a pro-style range help a lot to give visual weight. (This is my personal preference...I'm sure not meaning to offend anyone.)

What can also be nice on certain 48" ranges, when you only need 6 burners, is that you can get more room on the stovetop in brands that offer 6 wider burners, like on Dacor or Electrolux.

Well some women NEED a very large range. Our kitchen is 24' x 24', the kitchen takes up an area of 24' x 14', the rest is just open, a walk way for the front, back door, steps going up, and down. We like to pretend we are the set of a cooking show, and the cameras are in the open part. The plan is for everyone to be able to eat in the same room for holidays, so we will fill it with folding tables. Any way our stove is a 60", and yes I do think it would get lost if it was smaller. We also did the frigidaire all refrigerator, and all freezer, it looks like a giant side by side, and the scale works for the room.

We struggled with the scale issue, & ended up with a 66" hood over a 36" range, with 15" cooktops flanking it.

gizmonike...Oh HOW did I miss your cookcenter set-up before?! It would have been a good solution to my wanting induction, but needing more large burners. Looks wonderful and I bet it's great to have those options.

gizmonike: that set-up is perfect! Like rhome said, now I can have induction and gas! and that hood looks amazing (well, your whole kitchen looks amazing!)
    - what is the right side? a griddle? or do i have it mixed up?

i love GW! where else would you get perfect solutions to your problems.

sharon: I don't have wall space either, so maybe a large range/2oven would be great.

rhome: great idea about larger 6 burners, but i want open burners (which i know DCS doesn't have) and i'm not sure about electrolux...more research.

bob: I am a woman; it's my husband who wants the larger range. we're also getting the all fridge/freezer set up. how's the fingerprints issue?

The left cooktop is a Gaggenau single burner induction, 3500W, capable of 30,000 BTU. It can boil a big pot of water for pasta in 6 minutes. DS likes it because there's no flame.

The right cooktop is a Gaggenau TeppanYaki, like a griddle but it's considered a high heat grill. We haven't used this much yet but plan to.

The pullouts below the cooktops are clad in SS & have dividers for storing large skillets & broiler pans.

It's not that bad, especially if they would use just the handles, the finger print issue is managable, but our old fridge almond fridge was no work at all.
