I really like Visual comfort lighting and used a lot of it in my house. good luck.

To me soft, warm light is anything but an overhead ceiling light and/or fluorescent lighting. I have xenon under cabinet, halogen in cabinet and incandescent pendants over the island - all of which are dimmable. Are you talking about your kitchen? I know some people have lamps in the kitchen but seems lamps are generally for other living areas. Not sure how you'd avoid lamps altogether - wouldn't work for me as I don't care for overhead lighting.

If you want to look a little "fresher" put soft pink bulbs in your recessed overheads with a dimmer. They sell them in retail equipment supply stores and also in a lot of regular lighting stores. An awful lot of high-end retailers have been using these for years. :)
