Kenmore Pro

Hi all,

We're building a new house and are at the stage where we need to order the appliances. We had decided a couple of months ago to go with Kenmore Pro for most of them: a 36" gas cooktop, a 30" double wall oven and a side by side frig. As we're getting ready to purchase, I've read lots of mixed reviews including on Consumer Reports and just want to ask advice here. On the one hand, I suspect whatever we get will be better than anything we've had. On the other, we sure do want it to last a long time and work consistently.

Anyone have experience with Kenmore Pro?

We have the side by side fridge and really like it so far. It is quiet and does its job well. We have had it since June so I can't vouch for its longevity, but so far so good.

We have the 36 inch cooktop and 30 inch double oven- so far so good- no problems with uneven baking- cooked thanksgiving dinner and christmas with no problems- I was sooo worried when I read the consumer reports reviews too- but so far I've been pleased. We didn't get the fridge because I didn't want a side by side, but I got the Kenmore trio instead- happy with that as well and that has a lot of negative feedback as well circulating on the internet.

I don't have any of the kitchen appliances you mentioned, but I did want to comment on my experience with Sears' service. Several years ago, on my daughter's wedding day, our washing machine broke down for the last time, flooding the utility room. Since both the washing machine and dryer had been giving us problems for quite a while and were pretty old, we went to Sears the day after the wedding to buy replacements. We were mentally and physically exhausted after all the wedding preparations and then the wedding itself the day before, so we pretty much pointed at something and bought it.

Less than a week before our one-year warranty ran out on the washing machine, it started overflowing---every time I used it! We couldn't figure out why, so called in a repairman under warranty. He said he couldn't find anything wrong with it and we should just wash smaller loads from now on. I immediately called Sears, explaining that this was not acceptable. The person who took my call immediately agreed and said if they can't fix it they'd have to replace it. She arranged to have a new washing machine delivered---no argument, no discussion, they just took care of it. I was very happy with that outcome.

Also, when the original washer and dryer were delivered, the deliveryman noticed a barely perceptible scratch on the dryer and immediately questioned whether I wanted to have it replaced. Since I could hardly see it and it obviously wouldn't affect its abilty to dry clothes, I declined. Nevertheless, he put in a report about the delivery of a scratched appliance, and Sears immediately contacted me and offered me an extended warranty, at no charge, in compensation for receiving "damaged" merchandise. Again, I was impressed.

That experience has made me more inclined to consider Sears when the time comes to buy new appliances.
