Kitchen Desk Area Question

I left one small blank wall in my new kitchen. I thought I would put a piece of decorative furniture/dry bar or a bakers rack on the wall. Now, that I've lived in the house I realize I need a desk area.
I don't like the look of open space under the area where you typically put your legs. All the pics I've seen have the open space. Has anyone put a faux type door over the area that when you open the doors they slide back into the area rather than open into the area like typical cabinet doors. I thought it might work, when they slide back I could just pull my stool up and put my legs under it. When they are closed they would just look like my other cabinets not like a desk area. Or should a desk area actually look like a desk and be open under it?
Would it be too confining to get my legs under it? I'd be pretty locked into the space as it's only about 40 inches long and 23 or 24 deep. I would make it the same height as my island and other cabinets. I will have an upper decorative cabinet for cookbooks, etc. Small side drawers for papers, etc.
I did think about putting a half shelf in the lower space to put my laptops printer on. I don't really use my printer, but if I can fit it, I'd like to get it in there.
Thanks

    Your wish is my command
We did what you are describing (I think) - although this is in the upper cabinet piece - you could do the same below.
The second drawer pulls out to use as a work surface- It is a bit high for a standard chair.

A2gemini - Thanks for the pics - I actually hadn't thought of putting slide back door fronts on the upper cabs - so a BIG THANKS for your pics as I think slide backs would be better on the upper so I don't wack my head when getting up from the sit down part.
I just wonder if my legs are locked in and since there will be a bottom/coving/and my chair/stool can't go all the way under if it will be uncomfortable? IF I will end up bumping into the other drawers on the sides with my stool or legs?
I won't have a drop/pull out like yours as I will have a granite top - just like my regular cabinets. I want to put my laptop and my kitchen tv there. I have my tv on another counter and I hate it there, also I can't use my under cabinet lighting, I worry they are too hot above my tv.

Funny - I have a bench seat in front of my window too. I never sit there, but guests certainly have. It is right where my desk area is being planned!

If your a "gemini" so am I ! LOL

If you don't have an opening for your legs - they will kick the cabinets - you could do the same thing below with the doors but not store much down there.
We put a desk in our great room (same company as the table) and have our computer in there (it is a laptop). The printer is still upstairs, although I might figure out a way to hang it from the desk.

I am avoiding the TV issue - I could put on the wall or in the pantry but so far, I can live without it.

Can you post a picture of you idea.

Could you add a small cafe table in front of the window seat for your work area and put storage drawers somewhere else?

You said you would want it to be the same height as your cabinets/island, so you would need a stool, not just reg chair. Sitting at it without the cutout for your legs will be uncomfortable I'd think.

we had a desk that was actually used as a desk when we built 14 yrs ago, but with this remodel I am just having regular cabinets put in that space. With laptops/ipads we no longer need an actual desk. I can keep our wireless printer there if needed, or stow it away and turn it into a bar when entertaining.
