faucet with our without the plate?

I found the faucet I wanted today. Who know you could spend an hour and half walking back and forth in front of a wall of faucets. :-) Anyways, I understand it can be installed with the plate and without, just the faucet coming out of the granite. Anyone have an opinion. Is either way easier to keep clean?

My 26 year old kitchen has a faucet with an escutcheon. I hate
it, as it's ugly and a pain to clean around.

My new kitchen will have a single hole faucet...NO escutcheon!

The plate (called the escutcheon) is generally only used when you have extra holes you need to cover up. Otherwise most people don't, and I myself think it looks much cleaner without it.

I agree it's much prettier with no plate. Nice looking faucet.

Actually, it's a lot easier to clean around a faucet with an escutcheon than it is 4 different holes that you have to "floss". It's just not as cool looking because most escutcheons are on the ugly side. The sleekest look is a single hole faucet with the control on the faucet itself. Only one hole to clean around!

With the escutcheon on, you have to clean around it AND the place where the faucet comes out of it.

Plumber installed faucet today, without the escutcheon. It looks great. Thanks for all the advice. Monday and Tuesday the backsplash goes up. Almost done.

Wow, Andrea...this thread is 9 years old! Since making my post, we’ve moved (5+ years ago!), gutted and finished the kitchen. Of course, the faucet is a single handle, pull down (Kohler Artifacts)...no escutcheon!

Congrats on getting your kitchen mostly finished! Enjoy!
