Hi all, I'll start the day's thread. When it comes to holiday decorating, do you limit your efforts to your main living area or do you festoon other rooms?

'Mornin MM. I'm afraid we must be Grinches or Scrooges or something as we limit our holiday decorating to the living room (mantel and big tree and candles around the room) and the front door wreath.

Good morning MM! It starts in the living room and festoons out to bits and pieces in other rooms. I have had 3 different Christmas trees in the living room this year. I finally have the tree I want in there now. Hubby is so glad..*L*
    What about at your house?
I also put little touches of Christmas in most rooms. I have a ledge on my range hood that I like to decorate with a large winter bird platter, red blocks that spell out Ho Ho Ho and a little tree of live Rosemary. I also put some sentimental items in the guest rooms for my visiting children; favorite Christmas books and a collection of handmade porcelain Santas. This year I also pulled out a portion of my extensive Dicken's Village and set it up on my sofa table in the basement family room. It includes a motorized skating pond where the figurines actually move. Where's olldbob?

Mm, funny you mention the ledge on the range hood. Hubby built that into ours with the new house. When we moved, I had a 12"x12" wrought iron piece I propped up on it to see how I liked it. I never attached it. About 3 weeks ago I was cooking and it fell off, hit my forehead and bounced onto my upper arm. Forehead didn't even turn red, but had one of the worst bruises I've ever had on my arm. That incident dictated my Christmas decorating choices. *L*

My range hood has a deep shelf that's kind of a dust catcher, but poses no danger of items falling. I like to decorate it seasonally. For Halloween I put out an orange pumpkin platter and a quirky battery operated mummy that dances to Michael Jackson's Thriller. Love him!

I often decorate all of the public rooms of the house, but not the bedrooms or bathrooms.

So far all I have is the outside and a wreath on the door. Just don't know where to put the tree in this house and just haven't had the time to do anything else.

You are too clever mp :)

they are now officially festooned! and they decorate the whole house and the outside! HA!

Do you think anyone will get it, if I use this for a postcard and have the words... "Foo eeey Nala da!" ??
It's a stretch, but I'm guessing you're going after Feliz Navidad????
you got it mamacita!!! well, anyone who would get a postcard from me, knows how weird i am, and would probably figure it out eventually...or just think "WHAT?" or "Oh well, I guess she's lost her mind completely now!"

Hi all! Thanks for starting today's thread MM. I woke up a little sick but getting better.

I decorate the living room and dining room and hallway, that's it! If I had the big bucks I'd do the front bathroom, but alas.....

Going to get some Gatorade now. Why does that stuff work? Because it really does!!! What's an electrolite, anyway?

bobbi, an electrolyte is a mineral…know that from somewhere, which needs to be replenished if you are dehydrated which will affect your muscles. We have bottles of it in the fridge for the old jock; he always drinks a bottle before and after running, tennis, whatever makes him sweat.

The old jock! Funny. Glad you're back, and thanks, I didn't know it was a mineral.

Now that daughter does Christmas, all we do is light four huge blue spruce trees in the yard, two wreaths and candles in the window. Our neighborhood is filled with OLLDs and OML?s (old men love what) and they enjoy the yard lights so much. We get lots of calls thanking my cutie for doing it. One neighbor asked if we would leave them up all year! Oh well, Christmas spirit, however :>)

Olldbobbi, My pleasure. When the post wasn't made by 9:00am EST I presumed you were shopping, at traffic court or painting something red ochre. Hope you are feeling better. Did you get a flu shot this year?
    Olldroo is MIA as well.
olldroo is probably sleeping! She's finally seeing the end of her projects.

Yes, got a flu shot, every year whether I like it or not. My husband's accounts require him to have one so we do it at the same time. Red ochre, you're funny. Hey, it turned out pretty good! Thanks!

Anybody want to hear a joke? Stop me if you've heard this already.

One day after school little Joey was struggling to get his snow boots on. The teacher came over to help, and after 20 minutes of little Joey pushing his foot in and the teacher pushing the boot on, they finally did it.
The teacher (after wiping her sweat) suggested to little Joey that Mom might want to buy him new snow boots this year. Little Joey looked down at the boots and said, oh, these aren't mine! So for the next 20 minutes little Joey and the teacher pulled and tugged til the boots finally came off. And little Joey said, these are my brother's, we couldn't find mine this morning so Mom made me wear his. hehehe

Roo checking in. Have to use my iPod today which slows me down considerably. Now 9.20 am and no carpet layers. Going to be so bored today, I am presently sitting on my recliner that I have just dragged out to the courtyard, the only place I had to put it so I can sit down. So people will think I'm nuts - their problem!!

Have heard that joke Bobbi, it is a good one. Yesterday you were talking shower glass cleaners, I try to do mine really regularly and generally just use a window cleaner. I did find a sponge that is impregnated with chemicals that you just wet and wipe Omer the whole shower and it worked a treat. Had a chamois on the back for doing glass or mirrors.

Mp I think you are very clever, I wouldn't have worked it out, but that is not a song that is often played here.

My Christmas decorations are fairly token, a few things at the front door and in the lounge room.

OMG my carpet has just arrived - Asians doing it and the carpet is hanging right out the back of the truck totally unprotected and just inches from the road. They just have no respect for anything. One furious phone call about to happen!!!
    Go get 'em roo!
Didn't get me far. Was told this was quite standard for carpet layers. BS!!!! Oh and it it had been raining it would have been covered. Really??? Also said they allow a couple of extra inches so the outside borders will be cut off. Told him when one guy has one end of the roll and is dragging the rest what good will a couple of inches do. He at least knows I'm not happy.

They now have the carpet lying all over the ground outside. Why did I bother scrubbing my floors if the carpet is coming in dirty!! Guy said if they damage it at all they will have to replace it but only wear will show any damage. They don't speak much English either so whether my instructions are being followed goodness knows. I'm sitting here watching them like a hawk AND THEY KNOW IT!!!

    bobbi, the teacher needed electrolytes.

Had the most, unexpected, fun evening. We are pretty quiet on the Cape in the winter and our local market sent out invitations to an after closing hour party to welcome winter. So at 6 my friend and I dropped in and Holy Cow, what an amazing evening we had. Folks dropped by, some we knew, some we did not. We were served wine and beer, a raw bar, an amazing cheese plate with fruit, sliced tenderloin with horseradish sauce on little squash rolls, crab cakes, crostini with red peppers, and lobster bisque served in shot glasses. For desert, chocolate covered strawberries, macaroons, baklava and then were sent home with a bag of 2 dozen cookies.

I have to say that the bisque in shot glasses was the best idea. You know when you are looking for another snicky snack to serve before dinner? Fill them up, pop on a tray, and circulate.

Met a lovely man who has just moved here from London and is opening a B & B. His son, Roo, is off to Sydney tomorrow to set up life in Australia. (I told him I had a friend who lives in Sydney.) Who?, he asks. I told him to go to the phone book and look up OLLDROO or groovey granny. :>)
olldroo - how did it all turn out? Funny how English escapes them at just the right moment, isn't it? So, is your carpet all plush and squishy and looking good?

judyg - that sounds like too much fun, wish I was there. I love baklava! And tenderloin with horseradish sauce, too. This sounds like a great place to shop but what happens in your neck of the woods when people are allergic to shellfish????
