Phillip thats an unusual form and color for SM -- which is normally much darker and fully peony without the guard petals. SM is an early bloomer (September) but often a late season bloom will sometimes vary in color and form, which is what I think you have. Very nice, and glad you saved a picture of it. You may not see it look like that again.
