LOOKING for: Jr High School Dinner Rolls

I am new to this forum and am very impressed with all the great help that is given here. I am hoping someone can help me.

When I was in Jr. High School we were served dinner rolls that were @4" or more, high and very light and fluffy. Does anyone happen to have a recipe for these? I would greatly appreciate it.

Cody, I have no idea since my hs didn't feed us but it might help to mention where in the US this jr high was located. I am presuming it was US!

    MsAzadi,

I have since relocated but the school is in New Hampshire. I don't know if they still serve the rolls but I do remember looking forward to those rolls everyday.

I'm from WV and we had the same rolls. These were great and bring back fond memories.

Also, when? The era might help with the search (60s, 70s, 80s).

Are you talking about those great dinner rolls that were stuck together in blocks and very soft and buttery? Those are the same ones that are the pre-baked type and sold in boxes at the grocery store. The difference is that the school heated them with a steamer unit (big pan on top, steaming water underneath), which kept them nice and moist. We used to line up for those things...bought them 4 and 5 at a time. LOL - They never could keep up with the demand!

I guess carbo cravings is eternal. These rolls sound like the roll equivalent of Wonderbread...gumball bread. What would growing up back then have been without it!?!??!

Most smaller schools employ a cook....or 2 or 3.....and it seems the roll quality comes and goes with the cook who made them.
There is a woman in my town who was famous for her Wednesday cinnamon rolls....kids would get out of s sick bed and beg to go to schoon on =Wednesdays!...She retired and the rolls are not nearly as good ( they say!)...She now will surprise an old student or teacher with a pan of rolls from time to time!
Big fluffy rolls come about because of a light hand adding flour.
Guess I better go proof some yeast and get at it!

My speciality is making bread. When I want real high buns, I bake them in my "old" wedding cake pans, anglefood cake pans or whatever is empty that is high. I was lucky it was cold weather the first time I flew into a "logging camp" to cook. I knew by the time I got there, I wouldn't have time to make fresh buns for dinner, so I took a covered bowl with a bread sponge in it.
