With all the whites in the kitchen, dark floors will give a nice contrast and will help anchor the color scheme. Lighter floors may look too washed out with all the whites. Good luck.

Thanks Linda!! I'm struggling with paint versus floor color, and I will look for a darker gray beige tile. I'm assuming a light color like a cool neutral gray will work on the walls, but I'm working with an existing paint palette for the rest of my house and it's difficult! I'm not sure how the walls are supposed to coordinate with the floor and I have the new green glass tabletop to make it more confusing.

When painting the wood on an island, how do you avoid paint chipping? Also, is the paint finish eggshell? Semi gloss? Flat? Any suggestions?

We would recommend using a professional for this type of work. Typically, they would prep the surface by sanding it, then priming it prior to painting it. We like a satin finish sprayed.
