I would also make the hardware a little longer so most of the window is showing. Remove table and mirror. Too much for that area. Put smaller table, keep clock.

I think if you fix the curtain length, if you can lengthen the poles to pull the curtains off the window. I like the table and mirror but if you lengthen the poles you will probably need to turn the mirror and therefore remove the clock. The room is lovely. Easy fixes to finish!

Totally agree with extending the curtain length...I would maybe suggest a more rectangle item/mirror or a circular mirror above the table. However I Love the room...I think the table is a good idea....functions like a buffet or bar. Beautiful.

Another approach might be to remove the table and make these soon-to-be-longer curtains cover the entire wall. Extend the rod, as mentioned, so that curtains clear the windows on both sides when open.

Thanks for the suggestions. I was reusing some panels I already had so not returnable. But I can sew! I plan on adding either a block of a complimentary color on top or bottom to lengthen. Just need to decide on the color. I agree with the mirror. It seems to overwhelm that wall. Would you stay with black or something lighter? I could paint it a different color no turn it. Suggestions?

Here is another angle of the same room. I was thinking of hanging 6 of the mirrored frames above the buffet. Will be putting favorite pictures of a recent European trip. Is the mirrored frames too much or should I go with white frames, white matt?

Can you remove the clock and mirror and push the panels open a bit more. Take a picture of that and post for us to see. I think something narrower between the windows would be better and I don't think the clock works above the mirror anyway.

Once you get the curtains lengthened, which is great that you can do that yourself, the windows will look much better to you.

For the added fabric to the curtains, I would use a color similar to your wall color. It will still contrast with the white trims, but not be so different that it takes you in another direction. Or you can pull a color from the chairs against the wall.

when you sew the color block on the drapes, if it's a darker color than the curtain now, put it on the bottom. the eye will travel down that way. It will be visually jarring to have it on top.

You could also add a block with a pattern. These pictures are bolder than what I was thinking. Something with a subtle pattern with the background color the same as existing curtains. Another idea is a band all the way around. Don't know if this would work with the amount you need. I know you sew but buying a topper or pre-made curtain will save time. I do like your framed mirror picture idea once you remove the other mirror.

Am I on the right track? I moved the curtains as much as I could. Need to get longer rods....they are extended as much as they could, but with the bit I did move, I could ready tell the difference.
I but a different table there too, removed the mirror and lowered the clock.

You have a very pretty room. If this is where you entertain guests maybe remove the clock so they are not reminded of the time. Unless you don't want them to linger after the meal.

I think the vignette looks nice, but you can lower the clock more. It should be part of the grouping, a little more connected. I agree that a clock is probably not as appropriate for guests that I get after a wonderful meal :)

The photo is a foyer vignette showing how close the 3 pieces are related. The painting serves as a background, but can be viewed easily by anyone interested. The crystal bowl is for collecting mail.

The curtains look fine as to the spacing. I assume your windows are "9 over 9". Once you get the length done they will be fine.

Take everything off the small table and Lower clock further. I assume you are going to hang the 3 pix resting on the sideboard.

And add a darker low border on the curtains to lengthen them to floor so they puddle a little.

New table looks great - I did like the old one but on seeing the update it was a little too wide. Lamp is good but not sure about having two tall items on the top without something low. Color block always looks luxurious - go for it!

Have you tried hanging them below the upper transom portion of the window?

This is what I suggest, & you even asked that question in your original posting. You have the most beautiful ceiling features. Accentuate that attribute by hanging the draperies between the transom and the main body of the windows. You will need to shorten but you said you can sew. Please don't pool the drapes. Gorgeous room & I'm sure the rest of your house matches. I think the clock height is fine. I misunderstood the hanging of 6 of those mirrors, but you are talking of the mirrored frames w/ your European photos mounted in them. I would try one each way to decide the way you want them. That is the only way to know. I love your hallway vignette.

P.S. Are your dining room rods dark? I hope so because the darker the better to set off the ceiling feature. Try to post after photos. I would love to see the difference.

i really like the idea posted above for using a patterned color block on the drapery. If you found a pattern that went well with your two upholstered chairs you might add two rectangular pillows in the same fabric on the chairs and then a solid runner down the length of your table. I'd flip the mirror and remove the smaller items from the table and add something more substantial like a pottery barn lantern. Or three chunky graduated candle sticks. Candle light on that table would be really nice during your dinners. I'd take the clock down as well. You could use the two you have on the dining room table but add some candles. I'd also remove the white plant from the table (especially if it's silk.) Sorry, probably way more than you asked for. You have a beautiful room. I love the paint color and the woodwork is amazing.

You have a lovely room! My immediate thought when I saw your first photo was to lower the rods to sit between the transom and the main windows. You won't need to lengthen the drapery, and you'll play up the pretty architectural detail of the windows. It will actually emphasis the height of the ceiling as well, and create breathing space which will highlight the crown mouldings and tray ceiling effect you have.

Looking at the second photo, I like the smaller chest (so nice!), and if you like the clock there, I'd lower it to make it part of the grouping.

The lamp and decor on the chest are too tall. I don't care for clocks in the dining room unless you intend to time the meal and send guests home promptly. This chart will help you with accent lamp heights and has links for buffet and other lamp styles. However, I think the chest is too short, since the wainscot sticks up above it. I'd advise a pair of paintings stacked vertically and let the wainscot hold its own. If you can use the informal grommet style curtains elsewhere, get a pair of rod pocket ones and mount the rod between window and transom. I think you'll like it better with the curtains just kissing the floor rather than looking like they just came through a flood.

Hello, I agree with Sandraclark moving the rod down between the transom window & main window will allow light in the room at all times accentuating the ceiling. ( the length of the drapes might be perfect then) Extending the rods or one Long rod from end to end with the Bombay chest of drawers in front. You can still hang art with an extender, similar to a curtain tie-back that sticks out between the panels of fabric,so the art looks like it's floating. Lighting the art, will further give that illusion. Love the room!
