Ideas for staircase

Hi everyone,
Any ideas for my entry staircase? I am thinking of painting the banister and railings black or dark charcoal grey to contrast with the light walls and beige marble tiles in order to modernize the whole room, maybe even paint the door the same dark color. I don't want to paint the risers white because I see them everywhere, would rather leave the natural wood.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I just browsed and saw many examples of your idea in black, but also saw a couple good examples of using a lighter shade or interesting color. I think I'd start with a plan for just the stairs and then evaluate if you want to add in the door.

I think I like the charcoal idea. Sherwin Williams has a nice charcoal called Peppercorn.

Thanks Ann--will look at the Peppercorn color--just hope painting in a dark color won't be too heavy rather than modern. There must be a way to color the photo i posted

Black could be a bit heavy rather than modern. I certainly understand what you are thinking and think it will work great with the right color.

Coloring is harder than you think -- that's a complex image. Maybe you should bring home some samples and paint parts of the trim and see how it feels.

OMG thank you ACM and Soumaya --the coloring really helps...I think a darker gray would be better and black is way to harsh, don't you think?

Can you show more pictures of the entire area or staircase? I like the examples showing the white railings with your natural wood stairs best.

The photo with the dark charcoal paint, natural wood treads and beige walls resembles best my staircase and I think it looks fabulous. My worry is the thick trim on the side of the staircase which might weigh the whole thing down

Just paint newel post and handrail - but I think I still like the white - maybe paint your door.

Greetings. I do like contrast. That's my opinion. I feel the contrast will make it pop White spindles with darker rails and post :)

It's my pleasure :)
Keep in mind you don't have to paint the whole thing, the vertical bars could remain white. You could start by painting the horizontal rail and the one main vertical bar at the base of the stairs and see how you feel about, then decide weather you like the white and charcoal mix or if you would prefer the whole thing charcoal.

Maybe take an idea from the Eddie house pic and just start with the handrail, see how it looks and go from there.
