More photos up close please. Looks great. Is that a stone veneer and how did it work around windows? New sills?

Stone is Rough Cut in Moonlight. Window trim was blocked with Hardi on returns. Sills will be replaced.

Looks great! My only criticism would be that the stone should have returned to the front door in the second photo. Ending on the corner like that only emphasizes the fact that it's a veneer.

I love the way this looks in the after photos. It looks perfect. I'm wondering about the stone, though. Does it have grout in between? Is it real? Can driving rain or snow get in there and cause mold or is it sealed?

Lucky for you Island that it was really all positive. And as they say, you cannot please everyone. If the homeowner is happy you hit a home run! Anyone else who likes it is the cherry on your cake. I think it looks great if you care. (and even if you don't LOL).

Thank you for that lake 1114. May I ask, are you a designer, builder, crafts-person, or do you just have a keen eye and deeper understanding of these things?
Island, If you must know, I was a designer in a previous life! lol. If I had things to do over again I probably would have done interior design but alas, at this stage of life it is only a hobby that I adore. We are on the process of adding a 1200 square foot addition onto our 1940s lake house so we can move there full time. I am having a blast with this project and I am already getting nervous about what I am going to do with myself when it is finished! Just picked out some granite and a gas fireplace today. Most people hate this stuff, I just eat it up.

The exterior and interior of the original structure of this house is all field stone-not veneer haha. so no end of wall issues for me. The good thing about this being a hobby is I get to make all the decisions, the bad thing-I also have to pay all the bills.

Your work is beautiful, good luck with your career. Where are you located, just in case?

Hi lake1114 I knew there was a passion lurking. As for myself, I'm a stone mason by trade but we're a dying breed. Manufactured veneer and this ongoing stagnant economy are slowly weeding out the herd so I'm forced to serve the masses doing every other aspect of construction. I'm so glad to hear you have a "real" piece of history in your lake house. Stone- "warm in the winter and cool in the summer". We're located in Colorado but I've not seen a 1940's "lake house" here so I'm guessing you're probably back east. Thank you for the kind words and take care.

Island, yes, Connecticut and I could use a good stone mason for this project. Hell of a commute though. Post your e-mail if you want and I will send you some photos.

Lake1114, we are just starting a similar project on a 1957 lakehouse, adding more like 800 sq ft. I would love to exchange photos and see what decisions you have made. Please contact me if you are interested in communicating on the projects.
