people used to do it all the time. What a giant mess it created. I recommend doing the job correctly once vs having to paint it and then correct it once the wallpaper starts to come off on its own.

I agree with what's been said so far. Most of the work in painting is in prepping the wall. If you don't do it right, you're wasting your time as you'll have to redo it.
