Any possibility of rom in the bottom drawers of the washer & dryer and getting the stacking kit to stack them? Would you have to or would you be willing to move some of the cabinets above to do this? This would free up a lot of area below for counter space for a desk area, or for ironing etc.

I don't really want to remove the storage drawers below the appliances, had a stacked washer & dryer before, and the washer was too low for my back...so when we bought new appliances I bought the drawers as well (for my comfort). I have to work with the space I have. The storage cabinets by the ceiling are recently installed.

What is the back wall length from the corner (that meets the door wall that you have the board on) to the washer? Any chance you have 36"(or slightly more)?

How high is that back wall from top of the jute out area on the side wall to the upper cabinet?

How much space is at the other end where the rack is?

Also, it would help if you share how utilize the baskets & hanging rod.

The measurement of the wall from the door frame to the corner of the wall (the photo with the bulletin board) is 36" exactly. The open space btwn the washer and the wall (with the doorway) measures 36" wide.

The 'box' which the white wire shelf rack stands on is a permanent fixture....it's part of the ventilation system.

The measurements at the end of the room where the clothes rack is at, (btwn the dryer and wall with the window) is 22", the wall from the window frame to the back corner (behind the clothes rack) is 27" long. The ceilings are 8' the cabinets are 16.5" high, the space btwn the top of the appliances & bottom of cabinets is 25-26".

If the baskets that are being referred to as the ones in front of the appliances, then I use them to sort laundry & yes I like to use them, they work well for the most part....there are 5 people in our family. Sometimes if there's too much laundry then it feels as if I don't have enough of them!!
As for the clothes rack, I use it for hang dry items or anything that needs ironing.

I would also consider new window dressing as well, there is a privacy blind installed in the window, as the laundry room faces the street.

I would consider using the long wall adjacent the appliances for a slim cabinet with an ironing solution.

Okay, not sure about your budget, but figure these suggestions are to combine a lot of activities in one space...so cheaper certainly than adding another room. Also, you may be able find similar components at Lowes or Home Depot. I am going to The Container Store, www.containerstore.com for ease. I've used the system, it works well. Btw, I have 6 children (13 yrs to infant), and moved around a lot (dh just "retired" from the military). So have experience with loads of laundry and in less than ideally sized laundry rooms in various rentals & homes over the years.

This is gonna be long (sorry). Feel free to use none, part, or all of it :) Gonna break your room into 4 zones I think. One Mail/Office center and three laundry zones.

First zone: Mail/office...Alright most the following ideas for the first section below I gleaned off YouTube. An organizer named Alejandra has a bunch of free videos. I stumbled across them while watching videos on my iPad in my laundry room while I sorted & pretreated clothes :) I actually bought her system at alejandra.tv to glean more tips, and she is spot on...true talent. Her two free videos on mail are and She did two different videos on organizing mail since she moved and changed up her system. Both are worth a watch as are her videos on the Freedom Filer system. Btw, her system, the Power Productivity Program, https://www.alejandra.tv/shop/how-to-organize-online-organizing-program/, was worth every penny....good stuff. Found I am a creative/perfectionist when it comes to organizing. My dh is a minimalist with some perfectionist tendencies, but not as strong. The system helped me come up with better systems for our family & better articulate to my dh why I organize the way I do....as well as help me streamline more too. There is a private board too with the system.

Anyway, zone 1, on the wall between the door & washer (back part under current cabinet), I'd put a 3' white Elfa easy hang top track right under the cabinet. You'll have to get the 56" width top track & at checkout request 36" width (they will cut it for you)...you'll be tempted to go with the standard 32" track, but for $2.10 more, you'll be able to use a standard 3' shelf vs 24" (I'll explain in a minute). That last one you could switch 2 of the 16" brackets to 20" brackets and go to the 20" shelf if the size makes more sense.

Anyway, the 2 rows of baskets are going to be toward the top to sort your mail. The shelf at the bottom for your laptop if you want (folding chair/stool maybe that you could hang on wall & use in doorway?) or for a desk of sorts.

If you have 15" of space between the vent box & dryer you might be able to fit the Elfa Letter-size Mesh File Cart (14" x 21"x 24 3/4"h) http://www.containerstore.com/shop/office/fileCartsCabinets?productId=10017391, which also would give you 2 drawers of storage on the bottom for paper, envelopes, some poly envelopes for stamps, zip bag with pens & pencils, stapler, staple remover, etc. The freedom filer system paired with all white file folders would go well in it.

Now the shelf basket dividers will go on each end and the middle of each basket (3 per shelf). This will give you 4 generous baskets you can label with those label holders. This is for your mail. Highly recommend you watch Alejandra's videos on mail, but something like Processing, Bills, C/AC (Call/Action), & Out (Mail). Or if you want to divide the baskets into 3 sections each (6 compartments/trays), then get 2 more dividers & labels and try something like: Incoming, outgoing, processing, File, Coupons, & work stuff/projects.

Okay, wow, that was just one tiny corner, lol. That was around $262 with the 2 baskets & 1 shelf set up & file cart. Would be extremely efficient I think.

Second zone: above the washer & dryer. I think it probably is too high to iron on comfortably or fold unless you are tall (I am 5'2" so may not be best judge of that space to be utilized for ironing & folding activities...). On my front load washer and dryer I have three Rubbermaid white baskets labeled "whites", "darks" & "reds"...but you could label them whatever you like of course. One basket is on part of each machine & does fine even though there is a small gap between them. You might just want two baskets if you want to keep the bulk size detergent you have in the photo there. Baskets could be in addition to your current system, or maybe labeled as outgoing laundry baskets would be better. My current Rubbermaid white plastic baskets are roughly 24" L x 18 1/2" D x 10" H, which represents a perfect load of laundry for us in LG front loaders, the baskets can be wiped out & cleaned easily too.

In my home system I have a fourth basket on a cart near my laundry door my children use to dump their clothes in, then I pretreat & sort into the whites, darks or reds baskets. When a basket is full my dh knows it was pretreated & if I am busy when a load needs to go from washer to dryer & washer is open, he'll continue on & start the next load (he does not pretreat...*sigh* lol).

Third zone: space between dryer& window. While you could keep the current hanging cart there, I'd consider two other options.

Option A: If your hanging space must roll, then maybe it could serve dual purpose like this cart that has a hanging rod & 3 baskets for clothes: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0085J6RZA/ref=twister_B00IFVPCMC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. There are a couple others that are similar online.

Option B: Use Elfa again. That is what I'd do. Get a 32" easy hang customized to say 18-20". Then either baskets or shelves at top, rack for flat drying or shelf for folding & then a closet rod (also customizable) lower to hang items (my pick for a set up). Or another option is 2 rods for 2 rows of hanging. Or you might also be able to even squeeze long & short hang. This system will likely be less money than the other Elfa mail/office system overall.

Fourth zone: long wall across from washer/dryer, near window. I'd hang an fold down ironing board cabinet here maybe if I had a place to plug in the iron nearby. http://houzz.com/photos/22184542

One last picture below...the baskets on the top of the front loaders I was discussing. Here is a shot of mine in our current rental home (we are currently planning & soon building a custom home...very excited). The LG washer & dryer are about 7 1/2 years old and have been thru 4 moves so far :)

Our current laundry room in this rental home is the largest my husband & I have had. My parents home (that they built while I was in middle school) has a massive laundry room with center island. Anyway, our current one doubles as an extended pantry & broom closet right now. So I still find putting the wash baskets on top of the washer & dryer convenient. The "REDS" basket is actually "REDS/PINKS"...2 daughters with a lot of pink & purple stuff right now that go well with other red shirts and stuff from rest of family. We are planning our new home to have a multiple basket system (maybe accessed from hall outside laundry room) & eventually double stacking washers & dryers.
