Living room window treatments

We recently purchased a 3-story condo. Floors are natural Brazilian cherry. Painted walls Benj Moore Sailcloth to keep it light and airy.
Just hung cellular shades on side windows. To the right of the fireplace is a long wall of glass w door to the deck. The attached photo demonstrates molding we are thinking of installing over glass wall and will hang a drapery rod inside.
We would also like a mantel. Ceilings are high but room is narrow and not too large. Possibly hang tv over it bc inadequate space in room.
PLAN: Can we do same crown molding over cellular shades as glass doors on other side of room and can we mix it up with the attached mantel? Please know that budget is a consideration. Your advice will b so much appreciated!!!

The molding is traditional in style and the mantel looks rustic. It doesn't look like you have enough room to put that molding over the window in the picture. I think it would be too close to the wall

That's a pretty traditional molding for a modern space. A nice rod with panels might be just as attractive. Keep the mantel lower than that photo so you have room for the TV. Where are you putting your components?

Thank you! So you're okay w the mantel but no molding on either glass wall or over cellular shades? We were going to ask contractor who installs mantle what to do about components. Any sugg? Thx!

A good alternative to the crown above the windows may be to add corbels with the drapery rods hung in-between. Because corbels are available in just about any style, from modern to gothic, you can have any finish and shape you can imagine. Depending on how intricate you would like the carving, you should be able to find them for around $50 each or less. This is also a great item to find at flea markets.

You could do the moulding above the shades, but remove the crown portion to keep the look from getting too traditional. For your mantel, I would suggest doing this in the same painted white finish as the window sill/trim. If the fireplace heat output allows, the mantel should touch the black surround of your fireplace with the "corbels" wrapping the sides of the firebox surround. This will keep the tv height lower. If you had a chimney or the fireplace jutted into the room you would have more flexibility with the mantel placement. Components can be stored in a nearby piece of furniture or closest depending on your wireless connections.

Sooz001: you referred to the space as modern. We're on the fence as to which way to go. If we play up modern, eliminating molding, what do u suggest for mantel? Thank you!!

Also do you think some type of molding should be above windows to give that finishing touch?

Sarah Bernardi. Thinking more about ur sugg. Keeping molding modern. If u could send a pic as an example wld b MUCH appreciated. Would u include molding as valance over draperies and how do u envision mantel? This would resolve our issues. THANK YOU!!

A contemporary mantel might be rustic in terms of sandblasted wood finish - no problem there, but it would be floating - so it wouldn't have corbels. It would be internally supported with steel, or use raw iron L brackets behind / underneat - usually scribed in but they don't have to be. . . Or you could do a finished floating mantel - your window architecture does appear to be contemporary, so I would avoid lots of mouldings made for a traditional space.
