I'm with Maureen in that I prefer the neutral fabric chairs. And I like both of the Currey & Co lights and the one that Whispar Designs linked to is really nice too. A bit of a softer look. Couldn't say which one I prefer. Can we find a 48" or so extending table?
If you have a bed sheet or dust sheet that you can fold up to a 60" table and put that on the floor of your dining room, you can see how much space it leaves you for chairs. I think that a smaller round one that you can extend when needed would be a good solution.

Agree with both. An extending 48" table would be optimal for space if you can find one you like. Perhaps even a 54"? Even the size of the room dictates "generally speaking" a 24" fixture for the space (give or take a few inches)

I think you would be better served with an extending table. Have you thought of a drop leaf or a gate leg? Usually need to find old or antique. I have an 1890's drop leaf that measures 41" wide with two 14" drop leaves. It also takes a center leaf inserted that allows seating for 10 - 12. I love the fact that with one leaf up & one down it will seat four easily & push up flat against a wall or window. The legs have little round metal rollers & it has a center leg for support. Mine is black walnut. Absolutely crazy about this room & your view.

Enough room for long low storage piece on far wall? Doors, drawers or open storage. Color washed when the decision is made; antiquey to look like family heirloom; matched to other wood color you decide on for table/chairs....I love this room.

Carolins, we have that light fixture from visual comfort picked out for the nursery. I think it's one size smaller but the shade is the he same. Not really crazy about a rectangle table for the room but it looks great as pictured.

These two lights are in the list of possibilities also any chance on you plugging them into the picture as you did the others?

I didn't know the sizes of these chandeliers, so guestimated them and for the second one I used that Stowe residence one as an example. Remember that if you go for an XL chandelier you need to hang it higher to prevent people from banging their heads when they stand up or sit down.

You know, the slipcovered chairs bring so much calm into the room that is quite busy with all the windows. I do like them very much. Normally for a smaller room I would say 'choose chairs that show leg and thus floor to make it look more spacious', but because you have so many windows that the room doesn't feel small or enclosed.

The first fixture is 20.5"w x 35.75"h, the second is 21"w x 31"h

I prefer that first one to the other one. That one looks to stark with all the angles. This dining room is off your kitchen, yes? What kind of finish do the fixtures and fittings in your kitchen have?

Yes the dining is off the kitchen l, this is our island fixture we have, it's bronze...we planned on using ORB pulls and knobs as well but we haven't finalized those yet.

Other finishes of the kitchen are soft white marshmallow colored cabinets, soapstone countertops, farm sink and the faucet will be polished nickel, wood walls in kitchen to be painted or white washed. Picture below is the cabinet plan and the other picture is the kitchen looking into the dining room

Beautiful room! I think I would go with a narrow rectangular table, placed long-ways front windows to back doorway/entry to give the room a larger, longer more expansive feel that leads you to the front window view. The table in either a cream paint or light wood, or could even go gray stain or paint, or stainless steel for more modern look depending on your style. Then use a rectangular chandelier that is either modern or traditional as per your taste and furnishing. I like the light natural woods you have, and would keep the floors and walls their natural woods with a good finish. The ceiling you could paint the same as the table color, yes, the gray would be gorgeous and a great backdrop to the right chandelier! Grays are neutrals and are often a forgotten complement to most all colors, metals, and woods. Keep it simple and it will be elegant! Have Fun!

Thanks, both look very nice! We are taking a trip to Circa lighting store today to see if they have anything that jumps out at us. Using the Westport light would save us some money which is the smart option...plus it looks great in your picture!

The Westport one is a more classic look, the other one is a bit edgier I think. Both very nice.

Carolins, I think the bronze Markos metal pendant looks much better with this color chair and table than the Westport pendant does. The beige color of the shade throws it off a bit maybe. Not sure if the Westport would look better with a different color chair.

Not sure if either of these might be another option to throw into the mix since you are trending a bit more industrial?



Also, in looking at your island fixture and taking into consideration a lake view - perhaps going with something a bit organic with crystal accents? This one is brand new and not scheduled to be in for a few weeks but is pretty.

The larger shade of the Westport will obstruct more of your view. And in the mock up the light is on, which changes the colour of the shade. When it's off it's probably nearer the colour of the slipcovers. But you're right in that there is a risk the slipcovers and shade will be slightly different in colour. So... back to metal shades or one of the chrystal ones that Whispar picked?

I think we still like the metal Markos shade out of all the great suggestions offered from everyone. It just has a great look to it and I haven't seen that particular pendant used much...or at all on houzz....Making it even more of an interesting item to have. :)

We have a meeting set with an interior designer next week to finalize our selections and see if they feel we should make any changes to our lighting. Hopefully we can spend most of the meeting discussing paint colors and furniture instead of sorting through lights.

I did find a nice photo of the Westport over a table though. Still trying to find a nice picture of the Markos light in a dining setting but I'm not being very successful. I think that's the one but...I'm still trying to find a good picture before I put it to rest:)
