Cream color would provide a neutral base if that is the look you are after.

you need to measure that at least 3/4 of the sofas are over the rug. as for colors:
I tend to prefer oriental pattern rugs because they have many colors that makes it easy to update things like throws and pillows, wall color, etc. without having to update everything. this would be my choices

Guessing on your size, I would guess anything smaller than a 10 x 12 would look skimpy. sacapuntaslapioz is right on the money, but you could also go contemporary if you like that better. Can't agree with cream- doesn't add anything to the room and clashes with the furniture.

Yes it would be. goes with rather than matches. with those chairs and the sofas, oriental. you need color and a soft pattern.

Ikat or trellis would be nice too-- very "now". The oriental rugs are more classic.

There is such a thing as TOO MUCH IKAT OR TRELLIS. you already have on the chairs. don't go there with the rug. match-matchi= oldie-oldie

Is there another place you could move the chest that's next to the TV? It just doesn't work there. What about on the small slanted wall with the dark picture? You'll need to move the chair but it isn't in a good spot there--too cramped.

The rug is perfect. Lucky you. I'm still looking for one.

Sorry, I don't think the chest balances with the chair. It just looks crowded and uneven. Try the chair from the end of the sofa in the space where the chest is. Then you'll have a chair on each side of the console/buffet.
