There is nothing wrong with using an attractive laminate for a countertop - it might look better than trying to add another tile to you kitchen. Another thought is wood or butcher block for all or part of your countertop - there are online articles about using wood. Another is to use wood or butcher block for part of the counter and granite, quartz, or laminate for another part. You might be able to afford the smaller amount of granite or quartz you would need that way. Also - make your kitchen your own style without worrying about trends and it won't scream 2015 - and if it is beautiful in 2015, then whats wrong with screaming 2015 - it will still be beautiful:)

I think another tile on the counter would be too much... I agree that a really nice laminate would be better.
