Scale wise I thing the art pieces are too small. They are very similar in size to the mirror. Try to find something at least 3 time that size. I definitely would consider a large rug that would encompass both sofas to soften the sound bouncing off the floors and ceiling.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I truly appreciate it. What if I used one of these to replace the existing brown tables on each side of the fireplace? They are a lot taller so it will come up about 5 inches over from the bottom of the wall art frame. I can either hang these wall arts higher or replace them with something else. After looking at the photos I feel that these tables are too small. Keep them coming! :)

A light green might work really well. I attached my living room picture that has light green. The colors in your pillows seemed similar to colors in my room. Of course the photos don't represent it exactly.

Unless you have a specific need for the tables, I would remove and not replace them. Once you have the wall just right and maybe add a rug, you have enough furniture and interest and quality pieces, more would not be better. I really like your mirror, coffee table, and pillows.

Beautiful, calming inviting room. I love the vaults in the ceiling. Okay, curtains: buy grommet top draperies, use silver color largish rods with rather fancy finials. Hang them both (on opposite walls) at the same height, which will be the rod between the half-round & lower part of the window. They will end up at the same height if you carry it to the opposite wall. Do nothing to the half-round. Ikea has very reasonable colors, styles lengths& prices. Look at their rods too.

Color will be based on how you go with your area rug, which should come 1st. It should be your foundation. I would stay within your light color range for the rug. Go Oriental or Persian, ikat ot kilim. Take it from under 1/2 front of one sofa to the 1/2 front of the opposite sofa, extending to include part of the chair grouping & extend about 2-3 feet beyond the ends of the sofas. Move the chairs as stated earlier. Just take them back a little closer to the fireplace, but to expose more of the fireplace to view. You may need to adjust the sofas accordingly. Do change to a different type of console table. Keep it symmetrical. Anyone of the above is fine. Find some light sconces to place between the mirror (a little closer to the mirror) & the art at about mid height of the mirror. Do you have a TV in the room? Maybe include another pic of the other side of the room.

Add a rectangular shaped carved wooden dish to the coffee table. Add a live orchid to it also. Chartreuse.
Place a stack of large décor books under the coffee table on the floor. Remove the largest blue pillows.

I have a hard time suggesting a true color as my PC does not present your colors as they really are. After the area rug is down you will need to pick your color accordingly. Choose several sample cans of paint to paint on poster boards & locate in different places in the room at different times of the day to make your selection. Leave them for several days. You want to make the right choice.

I think if you replace the larger blue pillows you will want to use a complementary color within the area rug.

You have such a large nice room, based on what is on the unseen side, you will have room for more seating. Opposite the fireplace & with the backs toward your visual. Pick light, not upholstered matching chairs. Place a ceramic garden stool between them. You may need to add lamps on small end tables between the sofas & the open chairs.

Have fun & enjoy the lovely lived in look of the room.

i really like the blue accent you have so i would carry it with the curtains
shier curtains+heavier drapes in blue to cover the walls between the windows. same thing with the arch window

I love all of those tables and I think any of them will work fine. my favorite one is the turquoise cabinet. the distressing softens the room

Some of you wanted to see what the other side of my living room looks like. It's the front door and walkway...it's a mess now, but we are planning to enclose the staircase bottom and remove the rug on the steps. Probably paint the banister too.

I see why. A calmer feeling. but will you not lose too much light?

Not loving the stark white chairs with the off white sofas. A new fabric that uses some of your aqua or turquoise would have more impact.

You already have the perfect colors, i would go a little tropical with some petrol walls like in these photos! Your floor color, sofas and cushions would match perfectly! Add some green details such as plants and wall decorations. Good luck! :)

Since the foyer area is quite close to the living room grouping you probably will not have room for two more chairs to face the fireplace. I agree with the proposed changes you will be making. Not sure about removing the carpet from the stairs?? I love the change in levels going into your dining area. I'm glad you added photos of that area. I'm not sure I agree with your choice of ceiling light fixtures. Seems like they need to hang lower rather than close to the ceiling. What do you think, anyone?

Great start! Try a nice light grey to get that updated look you're looking for. Also, I suggest two pieces of art that are larger in scale to replace the ones you just got. Go for modern pieces that have great color. Also, a pretty chandelier hung over the coffee table area would be amazing.... Perhaps one by Curry and Company that has the turquoise elements would be nice.... There's also one in white. Enjoy! Barbara Brown

With all the light furniture, I'm sort of thinking a rug with a darker base color would be nice.

I like the light rugs you found....the one w grey is great. Pop your color w the paintings I suggested earlier comment, the chandelier , and you can mix up your pillows too. Lastly, replace arrangement of branches with real orchids. You can find them at many different prices, and they last a very long time. Have fun!

What do you think of the paint color? It's Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. My sofas are light brown so I'm trying to find s wall color to compliment them. Is it too dark? I thought this color would cozy up the house.

FYI I placed Revere Pewter in Three areas on the wall. So the 3 areas that you see in that dark grayish color are all revere pewter.

Revere Pewter is very popular, but to me, it's a bit dark. I do like one shade lighter (Edgecomb Gray) very much. What is the medium shade just to the right of revere pewter in that grouping of paint colors on the left in the 4th picture just above? I like that one.

I'll have to check, but I think that was Edgecomb Gray! LOL That's what I painted my family room. I thought it was a bit too light. What if I lighten the Revere Pewter by 20-50% I wonder if that would work?

I do like Edgecomb Gray very much and I would like Revere Pewter better lightened. Looking at Houzz pics lately, I'm feeling like there is a trend toward lighter paint colors, but that's just my opinion and I'm not a decorator:)

I would use a soft creamy white such as Calm from Benjamin Moore used in the picture below. Oushak rugs from Turkey are beautiful rugs and I think really suit your room. The mirrored tables next to the fireplace would be lovely and I would only place tall lamps on them for simplicity and elegance. You could also consider adding a damask wallpaper on that wall.

That color on my wall you were asking about is actually sandstone cove...not Edgecomb gray. I do have edgecomb gray in the family room, but that color to the right of the revere pewter is sandstone cove from Behr. Any other opinions on paint color? Is it too brown should I use a color with a tad more gray?

The darker paint is Manchester Tan and the lighter one is sandstone cove. Any thought which direction to go with colors?

Can I give some unsolicited input? I like your two light fixtures, but would like even more if you lowered them a bit (8-12"?) so they're more of a presence than a second thought.

And your front door looks like it's wood, but it doesn't really go with your theme, nor with your beautiful floors. How about painting the inside of it? Either to match your existing trim, or a blue for fun?

In the second fireplace pic, I like the biggest paint sample - the one that tucks under the right side of the mirror. In the first fireplace pic, I'm not sure if there if there is one color of if there are two colors, but I like the one under the mirror.

The one you liked in the second photo is the same paint color as the one that is in the first photo.
