Wall colours?!?!

So, we bought this fixer... which turned in to this gigantic can of worms. The basement is gutted, the main floor isn't but it's not much better. We will address the main floor in a few (2-5yrs) years by changing the dreadful kitchen and opening things up a bit but for now I NEED to paint over this horrible green on the walls now. The white you see is from the drywaller who - after I removed the (painted over!!) wallpaper border gave the works a skim coat to get rid of the paint line. We put in new windows and enlarged the dining room patio door from 2 to 3 panes to get in more light.
At first I was thinking to do all the walls white. Reason is, I cannot think right now with all the bs going on in the rest of the house and I just want it brighter, BUT with a kid, a (often muddy) dog, and a cat, white is a good way to really grab for that wine bottle at 10 in the morning so I think I need to add some colour to the walls too. I love the fireplace and the house has this retro vibe that I actually like. The hearth and little shelf on the fireplace is painted over slate which I am going to attempt to uncover because a white hearth is just.. well.. crazy for a wood burning fireplace (and that is putting it mildly) So white fireplace. Next to the fireplace is bead board which is also covering that pony wall by the entry. I was thinking, instead of having that white, I would paint that a mustard colour. The large wall that is visible in the living and kitchen area (on the left of the house) has got wallpaper on it and will be addressed eventually but since I am pretty sure that's just another can of worms waiting to happen I am under strict orders NOT to start pulling on that paper, so I just want to paint it and I was thinking a blue, like a teal(ish). A lot of the 'stuff' you see in the pics are just temporary because the basement is a gut right now. We like the retro/mid century look but don't want to have it too stark or formal. I am not afraid of colour but need to keep it bright. The living room window is facing west but we are surrounded but lots of big trees, gigantic maple in the front yard which will shade the house once it is leafed out. The dining is south facing. It's a good thing I was the one who suggested to buy a fixer because I'd be mad at my husband forever if it had been his idea :-)
