What do you think about something like this Marble mosaic tile in a herringbone pattern?

Yes, I would agree with the marble (to match your countertops) subway tile in a running bond or for a more modern look, horizontal end to end.

So I went to a tile shop yesterday and the designer suggested since i like simple, clean lines to go with this:

Since my kitchen is very small, having too much marble might be overpowering. Says the snow flask white glass will pick up colors from other things in the kitchen.

How do you think something like this would look?

That would look beautiful, especially with a bright white grout. Will you be taking off the 4" granite backsplash? It may keep cleaner lines and give the a more simple modern look without it. I really like your cabinets too - very pretty.

I wouldn't go too dark on the grout. I think a light gray or white grout would be nice and would keep it looking modern and clean. Search clear glass backsplash tiles on houzz.

With the 4" backsplash already there, I would stick to the same material. Marble subway or other shape of tile would blend with the 4" backsplash and make it look intentional. Other materials will be harder to coordinate (not impossible, just harder) as the horizontal plane will be broken into two materials and patterns.

What are you going to do on the sink side?

Ming green tile would look great.

I wasn't planning on doing anything on the other side of the kitchen. It's a rowhome and only 12ft wide so I don't want to overpower the place with too much tile.

You all have great ideas. In reality, I don't really think i can go wrong. I just need someone to make a decision for me as I've been back and forth multiple times!

went back to the tile store and there is a new frontrunner. With such a narrow kitchen, i realized i don't want too much white (countertops, cabinets, backsplash and plantation shutters). Definitely want to introduce some color. This tile with a light gray grout. Thoughts?

I love this tile...in fact, I almost used it in my kitchen, but someone ended up talking me out of it because they said it was trendy, so I ended up going with a gray glass subway backsplash tile, instead. Every time, I see this sample, I want to cry because I wish I had used it....Love it! That being said, I think you have the 4 inch counter backsplash still to consider. Place this tile up against your cabinets and counters and take a picture. I think it's going to look great.

I would recommend you do the backsplash on both sides of the kitchen. The area on the sink side can go to the same height as the range side and cap the top and ends to finish. I think a mosaic tile with some color variation will add reflective value and needed texture. A floor runner will further define it so it feels like a dedicated room and not just a pass through galley.

I like the Vihara brick pictured above. Or a white subway with a pale gray grout (like the vein the in marble)
