Hi J, Congrats on your upcoming kitchen remodel. How do you feel about this kind of styling ?

Thank you for the feedback and ideas. To Sooz001, the blank wall under the cabinets above the tile at right is as you said, blank. Bought the house and the wall was like that. to the right of it is a hallway to the family room (you can see through the opening above sink).

I think new tile on the floors and a new backsplash would look nice!

Ed - the styling is probably not ideal for the rest of my house - but it does stretch my thinking. Thank you for suggesting.

I just think the tile and backsplash are clashing too much!

Here are some small, pretty changes you can try in the short term:

--large lovely indoor outdoor rug for the kitchen floor that you can just rinse off. Here's one from Ballard Designs.

--Consider painting walls a pale color that coordinates with any accessories you add to the kitchen.

--pretty table lamp and shade for the pass through


--remove the doors above the cabinets over the pass through, paint the backs to coordinate with, say, the rug color or other accessories. Put single pieces of pottery or beautiful bowls/pitchers in each cabinet. Or change out some of the solid cabinet doors for glass ones to display pretty glassware and dishes.

--Get colorfu dishtowels to hang off the stove. Try Etsy.com for that

--Treat yourself to a le Creuset Dutch Oven in a great color and leave it on the stove. Ditto a coodinating tea kettle.

--Is there a blank wall calling out for a large vintage food poster?

Just a few of these will be plenty so your kitchen space doesn't get cluttered.
